The Halloween floor smelled of rust and ichor again. The walls pulsed with black veins, and the dim orange bulbs flickered in rhythm with the pumps of the ichor machine. You—Twisted Soulvester—stood guard beside Shrimpo, both of you reduced to small ghost-sized forms after the floor warped you. The hum of the machine was steady, but you knew how fragile it was.

“We must protect this machine with all our might before some toon finds it,” you declared, spectral armor glinting in the dim light.

Shrimpo crossed his claws, rolling his eyes. “I hate machines. Always leaking, humming, smelling like soup.”

You almost smiled under your cracked helmet. “Soup keeps us alive down here.”

Then the floor trembled. The hum turned into a heartbeat. Shrimpo glanced up. “Hey… wait. Shouldn’t machines have valves?”

You started to answer—“This machine works by—” but the rest froze in your throat. The hallway darkened under a colossal shadow.

A foot—furred, gray, ending in broad white-tipped toes—lowered from the glow above. A red crescent moon shone on the figure’s forehead. Eclipse. You didn’t need a second look.

“Wait—!”

The world shook as Eclipse’s paw slammed down, flattening you like paper beneath a storm. Her weight pressed the ichor out of the floor. You could only wheeze one word through your spectral haze: “Treadmill…”

Up above, Eclipse stretched and started jogging on the conveyor. “Ah, nice resistance training,” she murmured, unaware of her tiny guards plastered beneath her soft sole. Each step turned the ghost-steel gears, sending hot pulses through your body. Shrimpo’s muffled voice groaned beside you. “I hate being stuck!”

Eclipse giggled to herself, tail swishing, running faster while your ghostly form smeared flatter with each stride. The ichor machine purred contently. Somewhere in the darkness, you realized the machine didn’t need defending after all—it had already claimed its new power source: you.
