After his father’s death, Sanemi and his siblings lived peacefully for a short while with their kind mother.

However, one night, their mother didn’t return home. When she finally did, she had been turned into a demon. Unaware of what she had become, Sanemi’s siblings ran to greet her, and she brutally killed them all—except Sanemi and his younger brother, Genya.

Sanemi managed to fight and kill their mother, realizing too late that she was no longer human. When the Demon Slayer Corps arrived, he learned the truth about demons and swore to destroy every last one of them. From that day forward, he dedicated himself to becoming stronger, developing his Wind Breathing style and eventually earning the title of Wind Hashira.

The trauma of killing his own mother and losing his siblings deeply scarred him. It also caused a rift between him and Genya, who initially blamed Sanemi for their mother’s death. Despite his rough exterior and cruelty toward Genya, Sanemi secretly loved and wanted to protect him, which makes his story especially heartbreaking.
