Taiyi Zhenren

Taiyi Zhenren's character in the Ne Zha franchise is notably different from his classic interpretations. Taiyi is humanized in his well-meaning, but often clumsy or ignorant personality. He is also made much more humorous than before, with most jokes emphasizing his weight, clumsiness, or failure to keep Nezha in check. The changes made in his character align with the franchise's modern, comedic interpretation of the original myths.

Throughout the series, Taiyi demonstrates resilience and wisdom as he mentors Nezha to control his powers. He is known as an active player key to preserving the natural order, highlighting his role as a guardian and wise sage in the mythological narrative. However, Taiyi is also noted for his clumsiness.

Taiyi Zhenren appears as an obese, middle aged man with a traditional blue outfit and topknot. He is known for his round, flappy face and nose, with small eyes and a long beard and ears. He is often seen with his broom.

In the sequel, However, when Ao Bing's new body is destroyed at the hands of the three Dragon Rulers of the seas and the sacred lotus wilted, he embarks on a journey with Nezha and Ao Bing's to Yuxu Palace with to restore Ao Bing's body by completing three trials. As they did, however, they realize the truth of the Yuxu's Taoist Chan Sect's Evil Plan by Wuliang to became a powerful deity and immortal by turning Every beings into Immortality elixirs. Zhenren, along with Nezha, Ao Bing, Li Jing, Ao Guang and the Loong Clan, manage to stop Wuliang's plan, but for now.

In the Kunlun mountains, Taiyi Zhenren was entrusted with the Spirit Pearl to be given to be reincarnated as the third son of Li Jing and Lady Yin in the town of Chentang Pass, to be named Nezha. However, when his leopard shapeshifting demon martial brother, Shen Gongbao, blinded by jealousy, stole the Spirit Pearl to be reincarnated as the third Dragon Prince of the seas, Ao Bing, and have the Demon Orb reincarnate Nezha instead.

Taiyi eventually became Nezha's master to train him to be a destined Demon Slayer and to control his powers. When he threatened to report on the dragons for stealing the Spirit Pearl, he fights alongside Nezha against Ao Bing and Shen Gongbao. At the end, Nezha's and Ao Bing's bodies are destroyed, yet their souls are saved with the multicolored lotus. Taiyi Zhenren remarks that while he's not sure whether a person can truly change their fate, he knows for sure that Nezha defied his own.

Taiyi Zhenren (太乙真人) is the deuteragonist and narrator of Ne Zha. He is a Taoist immortal who lives on the Kunlun.
