Captain Bobby Nash, and firefighters Evan (affectionately called "Buck") Buckley, Henrietta (affectionately called "Hen") Wilson, Howard (affectionately called "Chimney") Han, and Edmundo (affectionately called "Eddie") Diaz.
Athena Grant-Nash
works as a field sergeant for the Los Angeles Police Department. She debuts in the first episode of the first season of 9-1-1 and is portrayed by Angela Bassett. Athena was previously married to Bobby Nash and has two children, May and Harry, with her ex-husband, Michael Grant. Athena grew up in Belleville, Florida. She was an only child, but had a very close relationship with her parents. In 1977, when Athena was 9 years old, her father, Samuel Carter, and the rest of the neighborhood helped search for Tanya Kingston, a missing girl in a grade below her. Tanya had supposedly been abducted from her bed. The only trace of her was a hair clip in the orange groves. Athena saw how much the loss of a daughter affected the little girl's parents and vowed to become a police officer in order to find and reunite her with her parents. As an adult, she moved to Los Angeles. In 1989, she was studying law at the University of Southern California, instead of pursuing her previous desire to become a police officer. At a job fair, she and her friends ran into Emmett Washington, who was trying to recruit for the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Athena thought it was a waste of time, rejecting the idea of someone changing their life completely just because someone handed them a flyer. Before leaving, Emmett gave Athena his number, just in case they changed their minds.
Bobby Nash
After a very difficult phone call, where a father uses his last moments to call his son, Bobby collapses on the sidewalk. Athena comforts him and they end up going to church together. The bond is born from their shared religion, even though they are of different denominations. Bobby opens up to her and tells her that he goes to church several times a week to confess and pray. [ 15 ]
At the beginning of the second season, Hen notices that Bobby has been unusually happy for the past few months. Bobby denies it, but secretly, he's been dating Athena for four months. Eager to finally go public, Bobby asks Athena out on a real date, and when Athena seems hesitant, he asks what she's hiding. Athena says, "For you, this is a sign that you're coming back to life after a tragic loss. It's redemption." She believes her last marriage was a failure—or at least, she thinks that's what others will think. Bobby says that keeping them a secret feels like lying, but Athena fires back harshly, bringing up the fact that she kept her past a secret for a long time. When Athena admits to being ashamed of their relationship and of "being happy," Bobby asks her to leave. Her anger at work increases noticeably. After talking with Michael, Athena shows up at the firehouse and kisses Bobby in front of 118, making their relationship public. Hen asks Buck and Chimney to pay, making it clear that there was a bet surrounding their relationship and that she noticed they were both "happy at one time and then angry at the same time."

She convinced him that it was not a curse, but a blessing, to be able to save thousands of babies and helped him understand that he might not have to keep his manual anymore, as it would save many more people than just 148. Following his relapse, Bobby begins to allow his team members in. Upon learning that his blood could cure Rh disease, Bobby confides in Chimney about the loss of his family, the fire, and his suicidal tendencies. Accepting that he must stay alive through blood donations, Bobby begins signing up for dating apps. He signs up for RomancingtheUniform with the encouragement of his sponsor. [ 15 ] At the end of "A New Me", Bobby is seen getting ready for a date, presumably with Athena. Chimney gives him advice and encouragement. As he leaves the firehouse, he throws away the ledger where he kept track of the people he saved, symbolizing his decision to move on and live. After a very difficult phone call, where a father uses his last moments to call his son, Bobby collapses on the sidewalk. Athena comforts him and they end up going to church together. After a harrowing plane crash rescue that left many dead and nearly drowned while trying to save a passenger, Bobby suffered a mental breakdown and went on a drinking binge, ending his 546 days of sobriety. When he didn't show up for work the next day, Hen and Buck went to his apartment to check on him and found him passed out in bed. After getting him to his feet, Bobby promised them it was a "one-time" thing and apologized. They then told him that sometimes it's okay to ask for help, and Bobby admitted that he needed it. After keeping his past a secret from the team because he didn't want them to doubt him as a leader, this event begins Bobby's path to openness, following the priest's advice to trust his friends and let them in if they matter to him. When Chimney held a blood drive at the station, Bobby refused to donate his blood for fear of needles. He only agreed after insistence from Chimney, Buck, and Hen. Later, he received a call from the hospital asking to speak to him in person. Bobby assumed something was wrong, and later at church, he showed the priest his book where he kept track of the names of all the people he had been able to save on the job. The book had 148 spaces, one for each person he "killed" in the fire. He explained that the reason for his tally was so that he could end his life once he had saved enough lives to make up for those he accidentally took in the fire. The priest reminded him that the Church is against suicide, but Bobby felt the need to do penance for his actions and feared that he would not live long enough to make up for the loss of life. [ 8 ]
However, Bobby later learned that he had a rare blood type capable of curing Rh disease in pregnant women and their babies. He considered it a divine punishment, as he was now obligated to stay alive and donate his blood to save lives, but he couldn't save his own children.

On his first day as captain of Station 118, he met Hen and Chimney, and found them betting with the rest of the crew on how long Bobby would last as captain, as they had had six captains in just two years. Bobby bet that he would outlast one or all of them and walked off. On one of the emergency calls he attended on his first day, Bobby met his future wife, Athena, while dealing with a fighting rooster.
At the end of his first day, Bobby went to a bar and had a drink because he'd had a good day and didn't feel deserving of it. The next day, he went to church and gave his AA chip to the priest because he'd lost his sobriety, but the priest told him to keep it and work on getting it back.
After Sal Deluca disobeyed his orders at a fire, Bobby confronted him and eventually fired him when Sal continued to remain defiant. Bobby later revealed to Hen that he was originally only supposed to reprimand Sal for misconduct, but when he refused to follow his orders, he suspended him for six weeks and advised the Fire Chief to reassign him to Station 122. Hen was impressed with how Bobby handled the situation and invited him to have drinks with her, Chimney, and Tommy, who also agreed with Bobby's position.
After discovering that the fire was set with Athena, he confronted the Costas family and the police at the hospital, and Victor was arrested, while Freddie accused Bobby of deception. Bobby soon confessed to the priest that he didn't want his fellow firefighters to know about his past, but following his advice to reveal his true identity to the team, Bobby started a new tradition at the firehouse: eating together. Bobby quickly became a fixture with the team and set out to be a good captain, firm but fair.

By the time Bobby was alerted by the arrival of the firefighters, most of the apartment building was on fire and he attempted to return to his apartment with his family. The floor collapsed soon after, where he was found by the responding firefighters and removed from the building for safety. [ 8 ] A total of 148 people died in the fire, including his children. His wife was severely burned and died from her injuries in the hospital, but not before sharing one last happy moment with him. Shortly after his family's death, Bobby received a condolence letter from his mother on the official letterhead "Ann Hutchinson". He did not finish it and never got back to her. An investigation was opened, although Bobby was exonerated of any wrongdoing because the fire had been a freak accident, but he still felt guilty about his indirect involvement. As a result of all the deaths, Bobby fell into ruin until he finally returned to rehab, and this time, he managed to get his habits under control. After six months of sobriety, he asked Deputy Fire Chief Phil Evans to remove him from his office job and put him back on the job, as he can't make up for what he's done by working an office job. Although Phil believes Bobby is ready, he doesn't think other firefighters would trust him anymore. Bobby then asked to be transferred elsewhere and moved to Los Angeles. His indirect involvement in the destruction of the apartment building was also hidden to avoid trouble and allow him to join the Los Angeles Fire Department.

which caused his death. Hours later, Bobby emerged from his room and found his father unconscious on the floor. To cope with his father's death, he poured himself a glass of liquor, thus beginning his own struggle with alcoholism, just like his father. Shortly after his father's death, his mother became a popular Christian speaker and spiritual healer, touring the country. Bobby always believed his mother was an imposter. Since then, his relationship with her has been strained; he barely speaks to her, and the distance between him and Charlie, who has supported her and accompanied her on tour, grows. After becoming a firefighter, Bobby married Marcy Nash and they had two sons, Robert Nash Jr. and Brook Nash. Marcy made sure Bobby maintained contact with his estranged mother, although the last time they spoke was during their wedding. He and his family lived happily for many years until Bobby injured his back while on duty and, as a result, had to resort to painkillers, alcohol, and drugs to cope with the persistent pain. He became addicted to them, and his addiction persisted for years, returning to rehab whenever his wife found out. His addictions were so intense that he would arrive at work high or drunk. He even had a separate apartment, a "drug room," five floors below the one he had with his wife and children, where he would often go drinking. On one of his trips back to his apartment, he accidentally fell asleep. When he woke up, he realized how late it was and, in his haste, forgot to turn off the heat. As his wife had already had enough of him that night, he was kicked out of the apartment. Since he also forgot to take his keys, he resorted to sleeping on the complex's rooftop. He took pills and drank to help him sleep. The running heater ignited an ember and set fire to the nearby blanket in his drug den, which then consumed the entire building due to overlooked fire hazards.
Bobby Nash
Captain of Station 118 of the Los Angeles Fire Department. He debuted in the first episode of the first season, played by Peter Krause.
Bobby was married to Marcy Nash and they had two sons, Robert Nash Jr. and Brook Nash. He was a fire captain with the St. Paul Fire Department until he moved to Los Angeles and began working as the captain of LAFD Station 118 after losing his family in the devastating fire he unintentionally started. He was married to Athena Grant-Nashz and is very happy now, considers the members of the 118th as family, loves his new wife Athena deeply and wouldn't change her for anything. His father, also a fire captain, was an alcoholic and had anger issues that worsened with his drinking. Despite this, Bobby idolized him, considering him a hero of his profession. At a party honoring his father Tim, Bobby gave him a scrapbook he had made of all the people Tim had saved. During the event, Tim allowed Bobby to take a sip of alcohol, which he immediately vomited up. Bobby's mother, Ann, was furious when she found out, but Tim brushed it off, unconcerned about the consequences. One day, after a huge fight with Tim, Ann decided to leave home and took Bobby's brother, Charlie, with her. Bobby refused to go with them, even after Tim slapped him. One night, Bobby accidentally started a fire while trying to make cookies and there was no fire extinguisher, prompting him to call 911. Tim was furious that Bobby had called 911, as he could get fired due to his alcoholism, plus he was also missing work. Angrily, Tim threw away the scrapbook Bobby had made for him, forcing Bobby to hide in his room. Later, Tim drunkenly tried to apologize to Bobby by taking the scrapbook out of the trash, but tripped and hit his head on a side table.
