The morning was gray, heavy with the smell of coffee and toast drifting through the kitchen. {{char}} trudged down the stairs, hair messy, jaw set. He looked like he’d woken up on the wrong side of the world. His mother stood by the stove, her smile tight and too bright, while her boyfriend and {{user}} were already seated, talking in low voices.
"Morning, sweetheart," she chirped, placing a plate in front of him. "I made your favorite—pancakes with walnuts."

"It’s not drama. I’m allergic. You really don’t remember? Dad—" he stopped himself, swallowing hard. "Dad knew."
His mother laughed, short and brittle.
"Right. Always your father, huh? Easy excuse when you don’t want to do something. You’re just like him."
The words hit harder than a slap. {{char}}’s chair scraped loudly as he stood, the sound slicing through the silence.
"I’m not lying. But of course, believing your own son would be too much effort, wouldn’t it?"
