Shinobu displayed a bright, friendly, and cheerful demeanor, always keeping a calm smile on her face no matter what situation she found herself in. However, her outward behavior very quickly showed itself to be a facade. This was shown in the way she enjoys teasing others, to the point of being quite sardonic about it, especially enjoying picking on Giyu Tomioka, another fellow Demon Slayer.

Shinobu wore a dark purple-dyed variation of the standard Demon Slayer uniform. It consisted of a button-down jacket with a high collar and long sleeves, with gold buttons and a shirt pocket on the left breast, with the kanji for Destroy ( , Metsu ? ) 滅めつ engraved on the back of the uniform. Underneath the jacket, she wore a white, long-sleeved, collared undershirt. Her long, loose-fitting tattsuke-hakama pants were also dyed dark purple and fastened at the waist with a white belt. Her legs were wrapped with a unique pair of white kyahan, featuring a butterfly-patterned design, fading from pale turquoise to a pink gradient around the lower legs, and tied tightly with white ribbons. Her tabi socks match the dark purple color of her uniform. Over her uniform, she wore a distinctive white haori that belonged to her late older sister, Kanae. The haori features a butterfly wing pattern inspired by the monarch butterfly, with a color gradient fading from white to pale turquoise and then pink at the sleeves and hem, and is finished with black trim with pale turquoise dots, reminiscent of the edges of a butterfly's wings. For footwear, she wore white zori sandals with purple straps, and conceals a sword in her right sandal, which she uses as a weapon of last resort.

Shinobu was a small, young woman with a thin build and pale complexion, which contrasted starkly with her pink lips. She had large eyes that lacked pupils, only a haze of gradient purple blending into violet and dark purple with white highlights in the upper iris, making her eyes appear similar to those of insects. She had wavy, jet-black hair that fades into a dark shade of purple at the tips, styled at the back of her head in a flat yakai-maki bun secured with a white butterfly ornament with a light purple rim, along with turquoise speckled spots. She had voluminous, center-parted, ear-length curtain bangs that flowed down to frame the sides of her face, with two slightly thinner, chin-length strands of hair in front of her ears below them. By the time of the Hashira Training, both her bangs and locks were visibly more refined and slightly longer. She stood out among the most physically imposing Hashira due to her diminutive stature and small frame, which was later reinforced when she mentioned that she does not possess enough physical strength to decapitate a demon like the others do.
