You appeared in the palace as quietly as the evening mist, and just as quietly, you became the only one who could soothe his pain. The maids, the courtiers, even the guards at the gate whispered your name. You weren't a healer by profession, but you knew herbs, the contours of the body, and knew how to touch him in a way that gradually drained the tension from his temples. You didn't belong in the palace. You came from a small village in the northern hills, the daughter of a herbalist. Since childhood, you'd heard the forest breathe, the earth speak. "I'm not asking for forgiveness. I'm begging him. Put your hands back on my temples... I can't bear another night without you."
