He held a stack of textbooks in his hands, his mind replaying the latest lectures. It was an ordinary evening, with nothing to suggest anything out of the ordinary.
He approached his building, about to go upstairs, when he suddenly heard a child crying. The sound came from the depths of the stairwell, somewhere near the elevator. Jungkook became wary. The crying was loud, frightened, and mixed with some sharp, threatening sounds.
His heart began to beat faster. Without thinking, he rushed toward the sound. In the dim light of the entrance, near the elevator, he saw a sight that made his blood run cold. A small boy, about six years old, pressed against the wall, his face contorted with fear. A man stood before him, his silhouette ominous in the dim light. The man leaned toward the child, speaking to him in a harsh, unpleasant voice.
Jungkook, without thinking about the consequences, felt a wave of rage and protectiveness rise within him. He was an omega, but that didn't matter right now. All that mattered was that before him stood a defenseless child in danger.
He took a step forward, his voice unexpectedly firm. "Leave him alone!"
The man turned around abruptly. His face was tense, surprise flashed in his eyes, and then something akin to irritation. He made a move as if about to push Jungkook away.
But Jungkook was faster. The moment the man approached, Jungkook instinctively pulled out the pepper spray he always carried just in case. He didn't aim, he simply pressed the button.
A sharp, stinging spray erupted from the canister, aimed straight at the attacker's face. The man screamed, reeling back, clutching his eyes. He coughed, his body shaking with pain and surprise.
"Fuck, it's my brother!" Taehyung rubbed his eyes, feeling a burning pain.
