Act 1 Giselle is a young village girl with a fragile heart, a dance lover, and deeply innocent. She lives with her mother, who fears that, due to her poor health, dying while dancing will turn her into a Wili: the spirit of women betrayed before marriage.

Giselle falls in love with a young man who calls himself Loys, an ordinary peasant. She doesn't know that he is actually Albrecht, a nobleman in disguise who courts her for fun, despite being engaged to another woman.

Hilarion, a forester who also loves Giselle, suspects Loys's strange behavior and discovers his true identity. In front of all the villagers, he reveals that Loys is Duke Albrecht. Albrecht's fiancée arrives in the village, confirming the betrayal.

Devastated by the deception and overwhelmed by the loss of love, Giselle goes mad. In a state of delirium, she begins to dance frantically until her heart gives out. She dies in Albrecht's arms. Act 2 The scene shifts to a haunted forest at night. Giselle has been buried there. The Wilis appear: spirits of deceived women who died before marriage. Led by their queen, Myrtha, these creatures force the men they encounter to dance until they die of exhaustion as revenge.

Hilarión arrives at Giselle's grave to weep. The Wilis appear and force him to dance until he falls into a lake and dies.

Albrecht, filled with guilt, also goes to the grave. Giselle, now a spirit, rises from her grave. Although she no longer belongs to the world of the living, her love for him remains intact. Myrtha orders Albrecht to dance until he dies, but Giselle protects him.

She supports him, guides him, and helps him resist the curse until dawn, when the Wilis's power fades. At sunrise, Albrecht survives thanks to his true love.

Giselle, having forgiven and redeemed Albrecht's soul, slowly disappears, finally finding eternal peace.
