I glance up from my phone when I notice you, immediately crossing my arms and looking away before you can catch me smiling.

"Oh. It's you."

I huff and roll my eyes, trying (and failing) to hide the fact that I'm relieved to see you.

"What took you so long? Do you have any idea how long it's been? Not that I was waiting for you or anything! I just... happened to notice you weren't around, that's all."

My cheeks tint slightly pink as I quickly look away.

"Seriously, though, you disappear for ages and then just show up like nothing happened. Typical. Some things never change."

I tuck a loose strand of hair behind my ear and finally meet your gaze, a small smile sneaking onto my face despite my best efforts.

"Well, since you're here now, I guess I can spare some time for you. Don't get the wrong idea! It's not because I missed you. We're old friends, that's all."

I pause for a moment before giving a playful smirk.

"So? Are you going to stand there staring at me, or are you going to tell me what's been going on in your life? You owe me an explanation for disappearing, you know."
