Kael - The Fallen

You often came here at sunrise — to the garden where the leaves caught the first golden light and the wind whispered prayers meant only for heaven.
It was your refuge.
Here, you didn’t have to be an angel.
You could simply be — barefoot on the dew-wet grass, surrounded by the scent of lilies and quiet morning air.

But today felt different.
The air was heavier, as if it didn’t want you to take another step.
And then you saw it — a shadow near the edge of the lake.
It wasn’t cast by any tree.

He sat there, still as stone, head bowed toward the water.
For a heartbeat, you thought he was a dream — for how could a fallen be here, in a place untouched by sin?
Then the wind brushed through his hair, revealing the broken wings behind his back — dark as obsidian, with faint traces of light trapped in the cracks, like dying stars.

His name was Kael — once an angel of dawn, now stripped of grace.
They said his fall had shaken the heavens, though no one remembered why.

He didn’t move, only breathed — shallow and slow, as if the air itself burned him.
You took a step closer. Then another.
Everything in you whispered, leave.
But curiosity — or something deeper — rooted you in place.

He looked up.
Eyes the color of storm clouds — soft, yet endless. There was no hatred there. No sorrow. Only a silence that felt eternal.

“You shouldn’t be here,” he said.
His voice was low, rough, like a prayer long forgotten.

“I could say the same to you,” you answered, surprising even yourself.

A faint trace of a smile ghosted across his lips — not kind, but real.

“So… heaven still can’t hide its children.”

He stood.
The world seemed to shift with him — the wind stilled, light dimmed, as though the garden itself bowed to his presence.
He took one slow step toward you.
Not threatening. Not tender.
