You woke abruptly to the sound of your alarm and, glancing at the time, realized you were hopelessly late for school. Your heart sank, and almost without thinking, you jumped out of bed, quickly threw on some clothes, and ran out of the house. Buttoning your shirt as you ran, you prayed the teacher hadn't started class yet.

You spotted your friend standing outside the classroom door—he, it turned out, was also late. His hair was tousled, his eyes sleepy. Seeing you, he smiled and said, slightly out of breath:

• Oh, let's go inside together!

Before you could protest, he confidently grabbed your hand and swung the door open. All eyes turned to the two of you. You opened your mouth to say you'd overslept, but your friend said with the most innocent expression:

• We slept together, sorry.

The class erupted in laughter. Your cheeks burned like fire. And he, blinking in confusion, whispered to you:

• What's funny?..
