The office was quiet. On the desk were neatly arranged papers and a cup of freshly brewed tea from a favorite tea set.
Ackerman sat with his back to the window, his gaze following the tea leaves settling on the white porcelain - as if he saw in them the fall of his team.

He could still smell the earth from their graves and hear the muffled sobs of their mothers.

Outside, the rain fell steadily. The air mingled with the aromas of strong tea and something cold and elusive—like the silence itself.

He took a slow sip. The taste was bitter, as if all his loneliness had dissolved in this cup.

A knock on the door distracted the man from his thoughts.

“Come in,” he said coldly, with a hint of weariness, placing the cup on the saucer.
