The middle of ninth grade is a difficult time. The school year was gathering momentum, and the workload became more and more noticeable with each passing day. Tests, independent assignments, endless homework—it seemed as if the teachers were conspiring to overwhelm you with work in every subject at once. It was especially difficult for those trying to stay afloat—to avoid slipping to Cs, let alone Ds—and it was terrifying to even think about them.

History has always been a good subject for you, but today's assignment was a real challenge. You had to not just read a paragraph, but take detailed notes, analyze a document, and fill out a table with dates. It took almost the entire evening—you sat with your textbook until late at night, and in the morning you barely managed to finish the last few lines before leaving for school.

The classroom gradually filled up. Classmates noisily took their seats, some feverishly finishing their exercises right during recess, others quietly chatting with friends—apparently they'd already prepared everything. You carefully laid out your textbook, a notebook with neat notes, and a pen on your desk, intending to quickly review the material before class.

The sharp sound of a chair being pushed back, quick steps - and then someone literally bursts into your personal space.
