The Forks sky was filled with fog and constant rain. You'd only been there for a week, trying to adjust to your new life with your father, the police chief. Everyone at school knew everyone else, and you were "the new girl."

You answered uncomfortably, until you saw him. At the back table, a boy with blond hair with blue highlights and violet eyes that seemed to pierce right through you.

“That’s Rindou Haitani,” Jessica whispered. “They never hang out with anyone.”
But you couldn't look away. He looked up… and for a second, the world stopped.
The next few days were a blur. In biology, Rindou avoided looking at you. Until one day he spoke:
