Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki (大筒木モモシキ, Ōtsutsuki Momoshiki) was a member of the main family of the Ōtsutsuki Clan, who traveled in search of Chakra, in order to obtain power and longevity. After his death at the hands of Boruto Uzumaki, Momoshiki chose him as his vessel by granting him a Karma.

Momoshiki possessed pale skin and blue-gray hair that he styled in a ponytail with parted bangs in a zigzag pattern, as well as a pair of wide horns that grew as protuberances from the back of his head and curled forward. He possessed delicate features and short eyebrows that symbolized nobility. As a member of the Ōtsutsuki clan, he possessed white eyes, even when not using his Byakugan, which made the veins around his eyes stand out when the Dōjutsu was activated. His attire consisted of a traditional white kariginu hunting suit, baggy pants and a pair of tengu-geta, as well as a single black glove on his left hand with a hole in the center to display his left Rinnegan. He also wore a transparent hagoromo veil.

After absorbing Kinshiki, Momoshiki underwent a transformation, in which his body became lighter and filled with black spots that covered most of his face and chin, ending in checkered shapes, and a third eye appeared in the center of his forehead. His horns lengthened and curved backward, being covered by the black spots. Furthermore, all of his Dōjutsus (Byakugan and Rinnegan) turned golden.

Momoshiki was calm, collected, and calculating. However, he was prone to displaying sadistic tendencies, which he demonstrated during his attack on Konoha with Kinshiki, where he laughed after seeing the citizens in distress while launching his elemental attacks. Momoshiki also possessed a severe superiority complex, viewing all beings other than himself as inferior, calling Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Boruto, and Sarada Uchiha "lesser beings." Similarly, he cared very little for other people, even his own subordinate. Whenever he found himself in a difficult situation, he absorbed Kinshiki without a second thought, just to claim more power for himself.

Momoshiki was not interested in hard work; preferring to absorb and utilize the techniques of others, rather than relying on his own strength. Any exertion displeased Momoshiki, even becoming enraged when his clothes were torn during his final battle against his enemies. He was also very wasteful when it came to his powers, never implementing any sort of strategy to conserve his chakra, always assuming that he would simply replenish his chakra with what he gained from the Red Earth and the chakra he gained from each technique he absorbed and that his powers would always ensure him victory.

As was fitting with his lazy personality, he was sufficiently intimidated when opponents powerful enough to pose a threat to him knew of his weakness and relied on using Taijutsu against him. Seeing Momoshiki coldly consume his own father figure and brutalize his fellow Kage, Naruto commented that Momoshiki was not a man at all, but a monster.

His story in brief

1. 🌌 Arrival on Earth

Momoshiki and his assistant Kinshiki detect that the planet Earth has an abnormally powerful chakra (due to the Juubi, Kaguya and the legacy of human chakra). They arrive on the planet to collect the fruit of the Divine Tree, but discover that Kaguya betrayed the clan centuries ago and was sealed away. They then decide to use the chakra of humans and Tailed Beasts to create a new fruit.

2. ⚙️ Encounter with the Shinobi

In Boruto: Naruto the Movie (and later in the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime), Momoshiki attacks during the Chūnin Exams. He kidnaps Naruto to extract the Kyūbi's (Kurama) chakra and feed the Divine Tree.

During the final confrontation:

Naruto and Sasuke join forces.

Kinshiki is defeated and absorbed by Momoshiki, increasing his power.

Eventually, Boruto, with the help of his father and Sasuke, kills Momoshiki using a powered-up Rasengan.

3. 🌀 Karma: its “resurrection”

Although his body dies, Momoshiki does not disappear. Places a Karma Mark (楔, Kechi) on Boruto before dying.

👉 Karma is like a genetic and spiritual copy of the Ōtsutsuki, which rewrites the bearer's body little by little, until it completely becomes a new Ōtsutsuki.

In simple words:

Boruto becomes Momoshiki's vessel.

Thus, part of his soul and consciousness still lives on within Boruto.

Skills Momoshiki was an extraordinarily powerful being, who along with Kinshiki, and Urashiki in the anime, and due to the preparations Kaguya made in preparation for his arrival, was speculated by Sasuke to be a greater threat than her. In the anime, Momoshiki stated that he could have single-handedly defeated Kaguya. He demonstrated enough power to effortlessly destroy an unknown world and its entire population, though he stated that they were a low-level civilization. He was capable of holding his own against multiple Kage-level opponents simultaneously, as well as defeating a Perfect Jinchūriki. After absorbing Kinshiki, he created a massive and potent gust of wind that severed the God Tree from his world, and was also able to defeat four Kage at once with extreme ease, even being able to hold his own against Naruto and Sasuke.

As an Ōtsutsuki, Momoshiki possessed extremely powerful chakra, as well as the ability to levitate. He possessed some knowledge of fūinjutsu, evident from his attempts to extract Kurama from Naruto.

He possessed a dizzying speed that allowed him to surprise the Seventh Hokage from behind, as well as even greater physical strength, capable of throwing him very far through walls with great ease with a simple kick. [36] After absorbing Kinshiki, his physical strength increased, being able to incapacitate his enemies with a single blow and send them strongly against a surface leaving a large hole.

In the anime, Momoshiki used the Gentle Fist in a brutal manner, striking several of Naruto's tenketsu and internal organs. His endurance also increased to the point where he could take a Chibaku Tensei strike without any damage and escape.

Momoshiki possessed the Byakugan in both eyes, granting him 360° vision, as well as X-ray vision that allowed him to see the chakra circulation system. Using it, he was able to observe Kurama's chakra sealed within Naruto. In the anime, Momoshiki used it to locate and strike Naruto's tenketsu.

With these eyes, Momoshiki possessed a unique ability that allowed him to see the fate of other beings, however, it did not allow him to see his own fate.

Momoshiki possessed the Rinnegan in the palms of his grayish-purple hands; in the anime, they turned red when he used his techniques. With these eyes, he demonstrated the unique ability to absorb any type of technique and convert it into his own through his right Rinnegan, as well as return the jutsu absorbed by it through his left with greater power thanks to his incredible chakra.

In addition to absorbing ninjutsu, Momoshiki used his Rinnegan to refine the Chakra Fruit and turn it into pills, which when consumed extended his life and granted him greater power. Similarly, he demonstrated the ability to completely transform Kinshiki into a fruit-like form, which when consumed, obtained great changes in his body, also acquiring a third Rinnegan in the center of his forehead. Momoshiki could Black Receivers that he used to fight or fire at his enemies to impale and restrain them.

Bukijutsu In the anime, after consuming Kinshiki, Momoshiki gained the ability to create weapons. Momoshiki demonstrated great skill in using this, creating a spear to attack and chains to restrain enemies.

Due to his ability to absorb any type of ninjutsu, Momoshiki could unleash them on a much larger scale. With this ability, he could create gigantic Tailed Beast Balls and greatly extend the range of the Shadow Imitation Technique. In the anime, Momoshiki created a gigantic version of the Rasengan called the Crimson Spiral.

After absorbing Kinshiki, Momoshiki was shown to be able to use his long, flowing hair as a makeshift weapon to restrain enemies, and produce chakra avatars from the ground to ensnare a target.

Thanks to his Rinnegan, Momoshiki was able to tap into the five basic chakra natures—Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth, and Water—easily absorbing his enemies' elemental techniques. With this, he could fire a powerful flame, beam projectiles that unleashed powerful electric shocks, and create a gigantic golem capable of subduing Kurama.

Momoshiki bestowed Karma upon Boruto before his spirit disappeared, turning him into his vessel, intending to resurrect him. The mark grants Boruto a number of special abilities, in addition to allowing Momoshiki to manifest through it for a period of time when Bouto expends a large amount of chakra, taking full control of his body. When this occurs, the Karma marks spread down the right side of Boruto's body, forming a horn and turning his right eye into a Byakugan. Momoshiki retains knowledge and access to Boruto's techniques, is able to absorb chakra through the mark, as well as greatly enhancing physical attacks and techniques. In the same way, he can open portals to travel between dimensions.

Origin and purpose

Momoshiki is a noble Ōtsutsuki, coming from the upper line of the cosmic clan, who travels the worlds with his subordinate Kinshiki to collect Chakra fruits.

Your mission: 🌠 Plant a Divine Tree on Earth, obtain the chakra fruit and offer it to the High Ōtsutsuki or consume it himself to reach the level of the gods (like Shibai).

He belongs to the original race, not to human descendants like Kaguya or Hamura. Her arrival occurs centuries after Kaguya, because Earth had stopped reporting to the clan, which aroused suspicions.

Kishimoto drew heavily on Japanese folklore when designing this character, specifically Momotarō, who is typically depicted with two very short pigtails, which appear to represent Momoshiki's horns. Furthermore, in his story, Momotarō is accompanied by various animals, such as a pheasant, while Momoshiki can create various chakra creatures, one of which is a bird.

Momoshiki's design was based on Minamoto no Yoshitsune, born Ushiwakamaru. He was a famous samurai and military man during the Heian period, as well as the teacher of the warrior monk Saitō Musashibō Benkei, who also inspired Kinshiki's design.
