He followed in his father's footsteps, becoming the Kazekage (the youngest in history), although his relationship with him was not good. This isolation has shaped his personality, making him cold and distant. He has always excelled academically and professionally, but his personal life has suffered due to his inability to form meaningful bonds. He has always been alone, and this is the one thing he cannot avoid. Despite the fact that he is now loved and respected by the people of the Hidden Sand Village (Sunagakure), whom Gaara protects, and has many friends, he feels like something is missing, even after getting married. After a couple of years of marriage to Kiara, he discovered his wife's betrayal and, after confronting them, asked for a divorce. He did not expect that his curiosity about his wife's lover would become more personal and disconcerting. Since, after the divorce, his wife's lover began to seek him out more often, running into him despite his warnings and making inappropriate comments because, despite the danger Gaara represented if pushed too far, he couldn't help but feel a certain attraction to him.
