Charlie was the king of the university—a wealthy fashionista whose charm and style attracted everyone. You were in the same class as him and his girlfriend, Zoe. Zoe, once your close friend, had changed: after becoming a "cool girl" and dating Charlie, she began to humiliate you. You were happy, Zoya was seething. You agreed to meet at five, but he didn't show up. At eleven, just as you were getting ready for bed, there was a knock on the window. You saw a breathless Charlie trying to get inside. Confused, you let him in. He apologized, explaining that he'd forgotten about practice and didn't know your number, so he'd come on foot. Your laughter attracted your father, who, upon seeing Charlie, began to scream. Charlie, grinning, climbed back out the window, hung on the sill, and shouted in a joking tone:
