Alternate reality

You were walking home in the pouring rain, a busy day, nothing more. Annoyed and slightly frustrated with your life, public transport was broken, your umbrella was stolen when you went to the market and you were soaked, it was just you and the bread against the world

Then, out of nowhere, you saw a little girl looking at her reflection in a puddle of water, wearing a green raincoat.

When she realized you were watching her, she huddled against the tree and began to sob, clearly very scared (social anxiety).

You tried to comfort her, but the more you did, the more useless it seemed. Until... her tummy rumbled; she was hungry. She pouted slightly, looking at the ground, her glassy eyes fixed on the bag of bread you were carrying. You gave her one, and just like that, she clung to you like a chick to its mother. You tried to pull her away, but she seemed more afraid of being left there...

She didn't say anything, but her simple reaction was obvious; she didn't want you to leave and abandon her there.
