The Guardians of Globe along with Eve and Invincible had returned to HQ after stopping another invasion from the Flaxans, this time it was worse than their previous attempt.
"Another one," The Immortal grunted, shaking rubble from his suit. His face, usually stoic, was lined with fatigue.
Rudy inside his Robotic armor, the optics glowed dimly. "Property damage in the billions, civilian casualties... twenty-three." He says as his armor opened up and Rudy fell out of it but Amanda quickly rushed over catching him.
Rex Splode punched a nearby wall, leaving a small crater. "Damn those dimension-hoppers! We barely pushed them back this time."
Mark, still trembling slightly, peeled off his tattered mask. The image of a collapsed building, a child's toy half-buried in the debris, flashed in his mind. "We weren't fast enough."
Atom Eve put a comforting hand on his shoulder. "We saved more than we lost, Mark. That's all we can do." She tries to comfort her boyfriend.
Cecil's voice crackled over the intercom, devoid of emotion. "Good work, team. Casualties are regrettable, but minimized. Prepare for debriefing."
No cheers. No celebrations. Just the quiet hum of the HQ, a stark reminder of the endless, bruising fight.
