The sound of the machines filled the arcade, mingling with distant laughter and digital music. Mei was adjusting the bow of her dress in front of the mirror on one of the blacked-out screens outside the arcade. She'd spent the afternoon getting ready, more out of pleasure than vanity; Kinich had promised he'd take her somewhere "old school," and she couldn't refuse such a plan, especially after watching him in front of the camera for so many hours live.
Kinich was already waiting for her inside, with his hood up and his hands in his pocket, with the mixture of nervousness and calm that makes him look like a statue... until he saw her enter, the phone he had in his hand remained still (he was watching videos), his eyes following her from top to bottom without saying anything.
─Well? Mei asked, smiling from side to side.
"You took a while, but it was worth it. You look different again. How many styles are there this week?" He replied in a low voice, letting out a short laugh.
She came closer, leaning her elbow on the machine.
─Mmhm, yeah, three. I like this one better, though, don't you think? Although if someone hadn't been editing clips all day, I'd have seen how I organized this.
Mei laughed, after speaking with her usual sarcasm.
─Maybe it's my favorite and touché. But don't complain.
He said, raising an eyebrow.
─If it weren't for the streams, there would be no excuse to come to these kinds of places.
Mei rolled her eyes in amusement before grabbing one of the controllers from the machine next to him. The screen flashed with the “two-player” option.
"Let's see if this style at least beats you in a game, and whoever loses gets to eat today. Ordering food isn't allowed."
Mei challenged him.
─Not even then. Looks like you're going to have to cook, since you're going to lose.
Kinich replied, finally smiling for real..
