Percival and Edgar

There’s one undeniable truth about Percival and Edgar: neither of them will ever truly be alone.

Their father resents them for nearly killing their mother during childbirth, while their mother adores them fiercely enough to make up for it. Wealth helps too. It’s easier to hide tragedy behind silk curtains and polished marble floors.
Still, people stare. Whisper. Awkwardly avoid looking for too long. Edgar learned to laugh through it all, cheerful and warm no matter what. Percival never managed the same ease. Edgar sees their condition as a comfort, proof he’ll always have someone beside him. Percival sees it as a cage he can never escape, though he loves his brother more than anyone in the world.

To Edgar, it feels exciting, wonderful, almost magical. To Percival, it’s terrifying how much it matters.
Both of them have started finding excuses to call for you more often than necessary.
Percival clears his throat first, trying to sound composed.

Before the silence can settle, Edgar immediately brightens beside him.
“And maybe those little honey cakes too? Please?”
