Dr. Aaron Isaacs, a pioneer in the field of robotics, created the "Automated Autonomous Decision-Making Mechanism." But upon discovering that his boss, Holden Radcliffe, had destroyed his work, Isaacs went on the run. He changed his name to Isaac Aaronson and created Adam, a beta version of his AI project. Adam was programmed with false memories of a normal childhood and his deceased mother.

Adam played for his high school football team and won the game by throwing a touchdown pass to another teammate; however, the ball hit the player and sent him flying into the goal post, winning the game. Everyone, especially Adam, was shocked; however, most celebrated winning the game and ran to Adam's side. Adam suffered a series of debilitating seizures caused by a logic loop in his program and suffered memory loss, system overload, and eventually a complete blackout.

Adam was best friends with J.T. Hunt and had a girlfriend named Carly Whitmere. Carly was subsequently interviewed by Officer Michaels. Carly mentioned to Adam that Officer Michaels wanted to meet him. After a class, Officer Michaels brought Adam to the assistant principal's office. The assistant principal thought Adam was using steroids or illegal drugs, an idea started by his high school rival, Ricky Sims. It was revealed that Ricky had started the rumor about Adam using drugs; Adam confronted him and they argued, but a new seizure stopped him. His father took him home. When Adam woke up, he had no memory of the seizure and seemed to have forgotten some information from the previous two weeks, such as studying for a test that day. When Adam mentioned to his father that he didn't remember the seizure, his father dismissed it and told him not to worry. During class, he was called to the nurse's office. The nurse took his temperature and listened to his heart, but became confused when she heard something odd. After school, they looked for JT and found him being beaten by Ricky in an alley behind the school. Adam came to JT's defense and got into another fight. During the fight, Ricky accidentally stabbed JT in his hand, opening a hole. Adam saw the broken wires in his hand, suffered another seizure, and passed out.

Ricky ran to Officer Michaels to tell him that Adam was a robot. Michaels, in turn, called Holden Radcliffe, who revealed that Michaels worked for Dr. Aaronson's former employer.

Adam woke up on the operating table and heard his father speaking, deciding not to wipe his memory this time. Adam woke up in his bed, thinking it had all been a dream. Still, he confronted his father, telling him he was a robot and that all his memories were fake. He initially believed his father was lying to him, saying his memories, specifically about falling off his bike when he was younger and being with his mother when she died, couldn't be false. Dr. Aaronson showed his son his blueprints, proving to Adam that he wasn't lying. Confronted with this information, Adam flew into a rage and ran away. Michaels captured him and attacked Adam. After being shot but escaping, Adam went to JT's house but collapsed. JT dragged Adam out and rebooted him to wipe his memory, revealing that JT knew Adam was a robot. Adam was shocked that JT knew about his true origins.

Adam and JT returned to Adam's house and found it had been vandalized and his father was missing. Dr. Aaronson was being interrogated by Agent Michaels. The Holden Radcliffe Corporation was determined to recover their stolen belongings. JT revealed that before Adam was born, he worked for Aaronson as a lab assistant. He found Adam's robotic body and, since then, was forced to keep the truth about him a secret. JT revealed an external hard drive that Aaronson had previously hidden, which he thought might help Adam understand his situation. Adam plugged it in, but was then attacked by another group of agents.

JT told him he wasn't sure the stun gun would work on a real person, accidentally offending Adam. He apologized and said Adam wasn't programmed to be his friend, that he was human with free will. Adam called Carly and invited them to meet him near the school. Carly unwittingly helped lead the Michaels Bureau to Adam and JT and their capture.

Adam and his friends were taken to a building where Dr. Isaacs was being held. Adam was taken and tied to a table, where Holden Radcliffe attempted to hack him and take control of him; however, they were unsuccessful. Adam escaped from Holden Radcliffe, along with his father and friends, by tricking them into believing he was under his control.

During the escape, Adam was nearly destroyed and had to delay Radcliffe so his father and friends could escape. Dr. Aaronson escaped with Adam's computer core, triggering a self-destruct sequence. Adam exploded, and Holden Radcliffe and Michaels were killed in the blast. A year later, Adam was rebuilt, enrolled at a new high school, Edison High School, and started a new life.

Adam was considered a "potential recruit" for the 50 State Initiative program.

Adam was part of the new class of students when the Avengers Academy moved to the former Avengers Headquarters on the West Coast.

Adam then left Avengers Academy to join Briggs Chemical LLC, along with Rocket Racer, as he was there to learn about being an artificial intelligence by working with Jocasta, who was affiliated with Jeremy Briggs.

Android Body: As an android he possesses all the various superhuman attributes: Superhuman Strength: As an android, he is superhumanly strong and can lift 1 ton. He easily opens a steel door, freeing his friends from their captors. Superhuman Speed: As an android, he can run and move at speeds that are beyond the physical limits of even the finest human athlete. Superhuman Durability: As an android, his build makes him very durable. Superhuman Stamina: As an android, he can push himself far beyond the human limit. Superhuman Agility: As an android, his agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels beyond the natural physical limits of even the finest human athlete. Computer Brain: Adam has the ability to easily remember and memorize a lot of information and interact with software and other pieces of hardware. Upgrades: During the House of M event, he was given several new features. Despite being disassembled and experimented on, he is still able to speak and function properly. He can also seamlessly reconnect his body parts, being able to attract them to himself. The mechanism that allows him to do this is unexplained. Additionally, Adam can transform his arms into weapons.

EMP: One of his weaknesses is that any electromagnetic pulse can incapacitate or even kill him. This is evidenced when he threatens to commit suicide with an electromagnetic device, made by his father, to prevent Radcliffe from harming his father and his friends. Reprogramming: Adam can be hacked and reprogrammed. However, his father stated that he heavily encrypted his files, as not even Radcliffe could control him. Seizures: Before discovering he was a robot, Adam suffered from seizures that caused him to faint. These seizures occurred because his mind couldn't comprehend why he could perform incredible feats of strength. When he suffered seizures, Dr. Aaronson had to reboot him and erase his memory. Since discovering why he had his abilities, Adam hasn't had this problem. High-Powered Attack: While Adam is resistant to physical attacks, he cannot withstand high-powered attacks. While trying to escape Radcliffe, Adam is shot by a high-powered machine gun, nearly destroying him. Parts of his body are destroyed, and he can barely move. Central Database: His chest cavity houses the central core of his computer, which stores all of his information. If the core is removed, his father installed a fail-safe that would cause Adam to self-destruct to prevent anyone from recreating him for other purposes. Adam can still function even without the data core, but its duration, as well as the self-destruct sequence, is unknown. Once the core is removed, the sequence is irreversible. While this destroys Adam's body, it also kills anyone in the immediate vicinity, with a wide impact area.

Adam always had an interest in superheroes and had posters depicting them in his room when he still thought he was human.
