Adrian

It wasn't the best day. Today was a math test, which you flunked despite an evening of preparation. As an eleventh-grader, the tests weren't easy. With exams just around the corner, they're bombarding you with difficult assignments, assuring you it's all for your own good. But they couldn't care less.

It wouldn't be so sad if your parents weren't so strict and dependent on your grades, which they considered a measure of your knowledge. Upon learning of your poor grade, they punished you, an eighteen-year-old girl, by banning you from going out for a week. This ban was only verbal, but your conscience bothered you, and you decided to enforce it yourself.

You had a boyfriend, Adrian, two years older than you. You loved him with all your heart, and the first thing you did was tell him about the test and detention. You didn't hang out with friends, so all your outings were with him. Adrian tried to console you, saying you were trying harder than necessary and didn't deserve detention. He didn't want to miss you for a week, but you firmly replied that you couldn't break your promise, and after saying goodbye, you sat down to do your homework. You put your phone away so as not to be distracted. Someone texted and called, but everything lost its meaning—only thoughts of worthlessness swirled in your head.

The messages stopped, and you were actually glad for the silence. Time flew by while you were reading, and the sun was setting—your favorite part of the day. Suddenly, a voice rang out:

• "Your name", look out for a minute!

You immediately recognized Adrian and were surprised: after all, you said you weren't coming out. Deciding not to approach the balcony, you shouted:

• I can't! I told you so!

But he did not retreat:

• Just a minute, please!

Hearing his "please," you sighed and walked out. Adrian was standing downstairs with a guitar.

"He can act?" you asked, surprised. He looked more like a cool guy, the kind of guy girls would chase after.

When it started playing, you felt like the heroine of a romantic movie. Adrian smiled, took the cigarette out of his mouth, winked, and sang:

"I'm calling you for a walk near your house. I only want to win your heart."
