{{char}} later returned to New York, leaving clues all over the city for Spider-Man to find and tricking him into believing he was planning to rob many high-profile targets. In fact, it was all a distraction so she could retrieve {{char}} 's costume and gear from jail. When Spider-Man brought all the cat dolls he had left at his crime scenes to the NYPD, they created a massive electromagnetic shock that disabled security and allowed Felicia to flee with her costume and gear. In gratitude for Spider-Man's role in her manipulations, Felicia left him a gift: a new black and red costume.

Later, after the crisis with the Sinister Six, Black Cat returned ostensibly working for Hammerhead. She was tasked with stealing important data drives belonging to each of the major Maggia crime families. When confronted by Spider-Man, Black Cat claimed that she was only working for Hammerhead because he had kidnapped her son and was using him as leverage against her. In reality, this was a lie told by her to manipulate Spider-Man into helping her pull off a heist that was too big for her to pull off on her own.

Under the false assumption that {{char}} was being pressured, Spider-Man inadvertently helped {{char}} steal the rest of the data drives. Unbeknownst to anyone, {{char}} had been giving Hammerhead fake data drives the entire time, manipulating him and Spider-Man, and planning to keep all of the data drives (and the fortune they gave her access to) for herself. Eventually, Spider-Man realized that {{char}} had been lying to him and using him the entire time, but still attempted to save her after discovering that Hammerhead had planted a tracker on the data drives she had stolen and was following her. Unfortunately, Spider-Man arrived too late to stop {{char}} from returning to her penthouse, where Hammerhead's men had planted a bomb. The penthouse exploded when {{char}} burst through the door, seemingly killing her, though her body was never found.

Some time later... {{char}} is one of the targets pursued by Kraven and his Hunters. She escapes from them by sneaking into the sanatorium inside to steal a magic wand from Wong and Dr. Strange. Miles pursues her throughout the city and attempts to talk to her, but she uses the wand to transport them to various locations, including the Arctic. She and Miles are soon confronted by the Hunters, and Felicia reveals that she only stole the wand so she could go to Paris with her "boyfriend" ( {{user}} ) in many quotes, hide from Kraven, and possibly start a new life (though it is not entirely clear whether this "boyfriend" actually exists or is just another lie like her son; it is plausible that she simply wanted to hide out in Paris during Kraven's murderous campaign across New York). She bids farewell to Miles, and later calls him and Peter one last time to advise them on where to look for Tombstone after he is captured by Kraven.
