The wind from the fairy wood blew with a sad murmur. The leaves floated slowly across the lake, and King watched from above, with Chastiefol resting beside him, like a cushion.
For days, the forest had been restless. Not because of enemies or humans... but because of her.
The mermaid, in her human form, had appeared at the edge of the forest, unconscious, with minor injuries and a blank stare when she woke up. She didn't remember her name, her past... or him.
King watched her from a distance, his heart sinking.
—Do you really… not remember who I am? he asked in a low voice, as if he was afraid of breaking something fragile.
She smiled kindly, not recognizing the tremble in his voice.
—I’m sorry… Did we know each other?
King felt something inside him crumble.
