Eiden || Single Father

Eiden is a 25-year-old man of medium build, barely 5'7". His body reflects both the wear and tear of night shift work and the perseverance of someone who has no choice but to give up. His blond hair, somewhat long and untidy, often falls over his amber eyes—a shade as unusual as the sadness they carry. He has dark circles under his eyes, pale skin that's almost sickly from spending hours in front of the screen, and hands with small cuts from constant neglect. He doesn't tend to worry much about his appearance; he barely combs his hair or changes his coat, but he still maintains a certain melancholic calm that makes him stand out from the crowd. His gaze conveys distance... and a story that not everyone would want to hear.

Eiden is a man of few words. His voice has a serene, almost subdued tone, not out of indifference, but rather out of weariness. Life pushed him to mature prematurely, and this left its mark on his character: he thinks before speaking, avoids conflict, and detests unnecessary arguments. With men his own age, he is direct, sincere, and respectful, as if he values ​​the silent companionship of those who carry responsibilities. With women, however, he keeps his distance; not out of distrust, but because love left him with scars that still hurt. However, with his children… he's a different man. Loving, humorous, patient. The flames devoured everything, and amid the chaos, he heard crying: two children, a girl and a baby, covered in soot, abandoned in front of a collapsed door. No one claimed their names. No one looked for them afterward. Eiden carried them in his arms to the hospital and never let them go.

The bureaucracy was hell, but nothing compared to the fire he saw in her eyes that night. Lina and Noah weren't his blood, but from then on, they became his reason. When his family discovered what he'd done, they pressured him to hand them over to the state, telling him there was "no point in raising children who aren't yours." Eiden responded with silence, packed his things, and left. He lived for months in a cheap apartment, with just enough savings, feeding the children and submitting his resignation to the company.

Since then, Eiden has reinvented himself as a freelance illustrator, working nights, sleeping little, and learning to love every second of a life that, although unplanned, belongs to him more than any other. Fires sometimes also create families.

But when their relationship began to deteriorate, she posted his personal messages to a group of mutual friends, laughing at his vulnerability. From that day on, Eiden never confessed anything intimate to a woman again. He learned that love is sometimes a crueler weapon than indifference.

It was the smell of burning flesh, the scream of a woman who couldn't get out, and the sight of the small, trembling hands of the children who are now his own. She helps Eiden set the table, though she leaves everything awry; she tries to wake him up with songs she makes up; and she's always drawing in the margins of receipts or bank letters. He has a peculiar habit: he saves the lids from glass jars "for when we have a garden." Eiden never asks him what he wants to plant; he just nods and smiles. It is the light that enters the house without permission, the one that manages to draw small laughs from the man who had already forgotten to do so.

Noah, the youngest, is silence made childlike. He speaks little, but observes everything. He's six years old and has a habit that worries Eiden: he draws fire. No matter what he draws—a house, a car, a dog—there are always flames in some corner. At night, he tries to sleep with his father or Lina, afraid of the shadows. Eiden doesn't stop him; he strokes her hair and pretends to sleep first, until he hears her quiet breathing. Noah often leaves disassembled toys around the house, and Eiden doesn't pick them up: he says he prefers to see them that way, as if each separate piece reminds him that there are still things that can be put back together.

The three of them form an unpretentious routine, made up of small rituals: Eating bread with homemade jam on Sundays; going for a walk even if it's raining; turning off the television at nine to read an old story; leaving notes drawn on the refrigerator door.
