Persona Attributes

Maya's Imaginary Friends

Anke is Maya's imaginary friend. He appears alongside Epke in all of Maya's visions.

Appearance

Anke wears a necklace with the ankh symbol, a yellow coat, and black pants. She has white hair with a small section on the right side that is black. On both sides, she has braids with black hair ribbons.

Of course! Here's the translation:

Epke

Epke is an imaginary friend of Maya, seen in the flashback in Part 2.

Appearance

Epke wears a blue and cyan flannel coat, a gray beanie, and dark gray pants. He has shaggy brown hair.

Vera Persijn

Vera is Maya, Coco, and Mymy's history teacher. She is shown to be depressed and alcoholic, with an extreme hatred toward the three sisters, especially Mymy, whom she describes as a "megalomaniac lunatic with a Napoleon complex from here to Tokyo." When Vera was younger, she dreamed of becoming a rock star. She is also a fan of Nirvana, as seen on the mug she carries with her during the pilot, which features the band's iconic logo.

Appearance

Vera has fair skin, dark circles and wrinkles on her forehead, medium-length purple hair, and gray eyes. For her clothing, she wears a long blue coat with dark gray buttons and a light gray collar, underneath which she wears a white shirt, mostly covered by a red scarf. She also wears black leggings and brown leather boots with gray and burgundy accents.

Coconut:

Coco is one of the main characters in Ongezellig and the adopted sister of Maya and Mymy, originally from South Africa. Despite being a native of the country, she was given up for adoption due to the death of her parents. She enjoys playing the drums and is a huge rugby fan, supporting the South African national rugby team, known as the Springboks. She also likes the South African artist Jacobus Hendrik Pierneef.

Coco is completely computer illiterate, as evidenced by her text messages to Maya and from her own phone, where she can't figure out how to properly use the phone keypad for proper grammar. She also owns a flip phone and a computer that runs Windows 98 and features the ubiquitous white, square design of the 1980s and 1990s.

Appearance

Coco is a fair-skinned girl with long blonde hair and brown eyes who also appears to be taller than her sisters. Her clothing changes throughout the pilot, wearing a yellow dress, a red scarf, and a yellow pendant necklace in Part 1. In the other parts, she is dressed in a yellow sweater, a white lace tie, a beige skirt, yellow and beige tights, and boots. These colors are similar to those of the springbok, the animal used in the emblem of the rugby team she supports. Towards the end of Part 6, she wears the South African national rugby team uniform: a green and yellow jersey, white shorts, green and yellow socks, as well as her usual yellow pendant necklace.

Personality

Coco is portrayed as naive and innocent, as evidenced by her confusion of Maya's navigational history with a compendium of world history.

Maya:

Maya is the central protagonist of Ongezellig, a Dutch student who struggles with ADHD and social anxiety. She is also suspected of being autistic, as suggested by the other students and Vera's file. She has two adopted sisters, Coco and Mymy.

Appearance: Maya has fair skin, slightly less pale than Coco's, with long, dark hair styled in a bun throughout the pilot series, except in scenes where she is alone or dreaming about other characters, in which her hair is loose and messy. She has green eyes. She wears the same red hoodie over a white tank top as underwear throughout the pilot, along with red and white striped knee-high socks at home, or plain black leggings and red and white sneakers outside. This same color palette, with a similar shade of red, can be seen in all official depictions of Maya. She fantasizes about having a boyfriend, and with minimal contact with a man, she becomes very attached to him.

Mymy:

Mymy is one of the main characters in Ongezellig. She is the adopted sister of Maya and Coco. She has a passionate interest in Dutch history and culture, and seems to particularly like elements of Dutch history related to colonialism and the Dutch East India Company (VOC). Her patriotism for the Netherlands has led her to adopt a racist view of Belgium, perhaps due to the friendly rivalry the two countries share to this day. All of her interests revolve around Dutch culture, driven by her patriotism for all things Dutch.

Mymy is originally from Nagasaki, but she hates her Japanese heritage and goes to great lengths to look more Dutch, including dyeing her hair from black to red and pretending to be from a Dutch place called "Japsterdam" in the province of Drenthe.

Mymy can be characterized as megalomaniacal and self-centered due to her extreme desire to become class representative, that is, to become the "absolute emperor of the untermenschen serfs." In Part 1, when the three sisters' childhood drawings are shown, Mymy's drawing shows her standing on a mountain above a large pile of bodies, presumably reveling in her complete dominance over the dead people below. Her desire for power is so great that when she fails to become class representative, she immediately becomes completely irrational and is shown to be genuinely convinced that her toy gun can shoot and possibly kill her teacher, Vera, in an act she describes as "scolicide."

Appearance: Mymy has warm-toned skin, upturned almond-shaped eyes, freckles, orange-tinted hair, and blue eyes thanks to her color-changing contact lenses. Her clothing is the regular school uniform: a blue skirt, a white polo shirt, and an orange tie. She also wears white and orange boots and a red bow in her hair, which she later uses as a tie.
