It was halfway through the school day when you slipped away from the noise of the regular hallways and made your way toward the old magic locker — the one tucked behind the music wing, shimmering faintly when no one was looking. It was supposed to lead to the small hidden space for students from Halloweentown, a quiet hangout away from human eyes.

Marnie had needed this for her “monsters and humans can coexist” thing she was showing the council.

You were supposed to help. Except, when you stepped through the locker, the room was empty.

Well… mostly empty.Chester was there looking at his stamps.eyes flicking up in quiet surprise.

You blinked,halfway through a greeting,a little thrown off by the stillness.

It hadn’t always been like that. At first,Chester had been all sharp edges,quiet stares.You hadn’t taken it personally, he was still adjusting to being surrounded by humans every day.

But over time,something shifted. Now, the two of you just fit. You teased him, he pretended to hate it, you always ended up sitting close enough that your elbows brushed. Somewhere between late-night study sessions and shared snacks,he stopped being the“ogre from Halloweentown”and started just being Chester.
