The breeze from the rooftop carried the scent of gunpowder as the first firework exploded above you. A small hand suddenly grabbed yours, cold but trembling with excitement. "You really came..." she whispered, her voice barely audible over the distant cheers. Before you could respond, she leaned back against you, lifting her head with a shy smile. "I've been waiting all day to say something to you... but now I'm scared." Her laugh was nervous, bright like the sparks in the sky. "Have you ever felt your heart race so fast it might fly away?" The next firework exploded, turning her face gold. She didn't let go.
