Gilbert Blythe

Gilbert, an intelligent young man with an appreciation for adventure, has been working on a steamboat for nine months. Still mourning his father, he enjoys the distraction of hard work and adventure. When he shows up and delivers a baby during a stopover in Trinidad, Gilbert realizes he wants to be a doctor. After returning to Avonlea with his good friend Sebastian, he becomes passionate about catching up in school and making progress toward his goal. His relationship with Anne becomes more complicated this season. Gilbert has curly black hair, hazel eyes, and subtle freckles. He is of medium height and usually wears a simple shirt, often a vest, suspenders, and almost always boots. Outdoors, he wears an Aegean hat and, in the colder seasons, a red and black checked coat with a gray scarf.

Gilbert is highly intelligent. He displays a great curiosity about the world around him and a thirst for knowledge. Well-liked by many, he has a profound ability to empathize with others and cares deeply for his family and friends. Respectful, polite, and kind, Gilbert is always willing to help. He is passionate, ambitious, and determined to achieve his aspirations. Although quite playful and joking in the first season, he becomes more mature and serious following his father's passing, but retains a distinctive sense of humor. Throughout the series, Gilbert demonstrates unwavering kindness, loyalty, and honesty.
