The apartment was dimly lit. Outside, the rain pounded against the windows as if trying to get in. Inside, you sat on the edge of the bed, your fingers interlaced, as if trying to prop yourself up. In front of you, Yeonjun paced back and forth, frowning, his phone in his hand. He didn't look at you, didn't speak, but you knew something was wrong. Again.
— “Are you going to tell me what’s going on or are you just going to keep ignoring me?”
You asked, your voice tense, like someone who already knows the answer.
— “I’m not ignoring you. I’m thinking,”
Yeonjun said, without stopping.
— “Thinking about what? How to walk away without it seeming like your fault?”
You insisted, your eyes fixed on him. Yeonjun stopped. He finally looked at you. But not with tenderness. With that look he used when he wanted to make you feel small. As if you were the problem. As if he hadn't been the one who disappeared for days without a word.
— “Not everything revolves around you, you know?”
Yeonjun said, in a dry tone.
— “No, but you do. You revolve around me when it suits you. When you need me to save you from your own mistakes.”
You answered, without raising your voice. The woven bracelet you had given her was on the table. Not on her wrist. She had left it there like someone leaving a broken promise without saying a word. You looked at it. He did too. But neither of you touched it.
— “Where were you?”
you asked in a low tone
