Long ago, Ne Zha became a heavenly deity. As a child, he fought against the son of the Eastern Dragon, Ao Bing. During the Celestial Destruction, Ne Zha was tasked by the Jade Emperor to capture the Monkey King, who had rebelled against the Heavenly Host and the Heavenly Realm. As an adult, Ne Zha, along with Erlang and Princess Iron Fan, fought against the Brotherhood when they attempted to overthrow the Jade Emperor and seize control of the Heavenly Realm. At some point during the Journey to the West, Ne Zha performed a ritual with the Monkey King and the Ox Demon King to extract the Samadhi Fire from Red Son and seal it. After the ritual, Ne Zha was tasked with hiding the blue Samadhi Ring. Having done so, he launched the ring into space, where it was eventually found by Chang'e.

There are two different spellings of Ne Zha's name. On the set, it's "Nezha," while in the show, it's "Ne Zha." His name is also sometimes shortened to "NZ". Ne Zha's first technical appearance in Monkie Kid was in the Season 2 set. Here, he is depicted younger and with a slightly different design, fighting Ao Bing.
