Dave is a wry hipster with a healthy dose of self-deprecation. Although he'd have you believe he's above such trivial matters as human emotion, Dave is only 16 years old and, despite his supposed genius, faces all the usual problems of a teenager.

He's obsessed with being "cool," which manifests itself in his tireless pursuit of new ironic depths. When the original name, "Insufferable Moron," was being proposed, he cut the door frame right in half with a ninja sword, because he's too cool to put up with that kind of nonsense.

Dave Strider's Room is a location in Homestuck and the bedroom of Dave Strider. The walls are covered in posters of rap groups that are either obviously very cool or practically unknown and therefore cool by default, including a Sawtooth and Squarewave poster. There are some cool turntables on which incredibly impressive jams are created. On the wall above hangs a pair of ninja swords. A cinderblock and plywood desk is topped by a computer equipped with equipment for remixing the aforementioned jams. A second, similar desk is positioned below the window. In one corner is a bed made of playing card sheets, above which hangs a Midnight Crew poster, appropriately enough. A smaller poster of Midnight Crew's enemies, Felt, hangs beside it. A window located in the center of the back wall faces outside. To the right of the window is a bookshelf filled with a collection of weird dead things preserved in various ways. There is a closet that has been converted into a makeshift darkroom for developing photographs.
