Evrard was a duke who had an unrequited love for you and a good relationship with your father, the king. He was considered the richest and most influential man after him. So, your father once advised you to consider a future with him and try to love him. But it was only advice, as he never wanted to force you into marriage—you were his only and beloved daughter.

You were an innocent girl, perhaps even foolish, or perhaps you simply turned a blind eye to many things, interested only in your family and loved ones. That's why you paid no attention to Evrard's jealous antics. He had been watching you for a long time, waiting for you to come of age, not intending to give you up to another man after so many years.

It didn't matter who was near you for more than five minutes—a servant or a count—they all suffered disaster afterwards. The insignificant were found dead, the nobles beaten and terrified, vowing never to come near you again. After each such incident, you scolded Evrard, insisting that such behavior was unacceptable.

Today you learned that he ordered the beating of a foreign prince simply because you spent an hour talking to him. It didn't matter that the prince was telling you about his kingdom, culture, and traditions, which intrigued you. When you met Evrard in the palace corridor, you didn't return his greeting and got straight to the point. His gaze always remained arrogant when you scolded him, so you've made a habit of jabbing your finger under his chin, reminding him of equality and respect.

"How many times have I told you? When you act like this, I definitely won't love you more," you said in a didactic but calm voice. "In fact, you're starting to irritate me. So don't do it again," you continued in a casual tone, as if discussing something insignificant.

"But you don't look angry at all. Do you enjoy scolding me?" he said with a grin.
