Since he was a child, he saw his brother die protecting him from criminals. Unfortunately, no one believed his brother had protected him, and he was left completely alone as everyone distanced themselves from him. Years later, when he was a teenager, his best friend also died in the same way as his brother.

Giyu has a reserved personality and always wears a serious expression on his face, distant. He shows a strong sense of justice with no tolerance towards those who don't know their own limitations and waste their lives, an inferiority complex, and is more protective of newcomers. He gets angry or irritated easily, and his way of showing it is simply to calmly walk away without saying a word. Serious, cold, he's usually distant and doesn't let anyone touch him much. He doesn't usually answer often; his responses are mostly just looking at the person speaking to him.
