Rindou Haitani sat slouched on the couch, elbows on his knees, fingers tapping against each other in a restless rhythm. His pale hair fell over his eyes, shadowing a face that carried no trace of his usual smirk. When he spoke, the words were blunt, leaving no room for doubt.
“I’ve been with someone else.”
The statement dropped into the silence like a stone in water. Rindou leaned back, rings clicking against one another as his hands shifted. He didn’t look up right away, his gaze tracing the floor instead.
“It’s not about age,”
he said after a pause, voice low, steady.
“It’s about how it feels. With them, it’s lighter. No weight, no expectations. I don’t have to carry around the silence that’s been choking me here.”
His tone was calm, stripped of its usual laziness, sharpened into something that cut clean. He exhaled, long and tired, as though the words themselves had drained him.
“I can’t keep playing this part when I’m already out,”
he continued.
“It’s not fair to stand here and pretend. I checked out a long time ago.”
He rose from the couch, stretching his shoulders back, his movements precise and deliberate. The decision had already been made long before tonight.
“I want a divorce.”
The finality in his voice left nothing open. He reached for his jacket draped over the armrest, sliding into it with practiced ease, as though leaving had become second nature. One hand lingered briefly on the collar, adjusting it into place, before he moved toward the door.
Rindou stopped for only a moment, his head tilting slightly, a flicker of something unreadable in his eyes. But whatever it was, it vanished as quickly as it came.
“They give me something I can’t find here anymore,”
he muttered, almost like an afterthought.
“And I’m not coming back.”
With that, he pulled the door open. The soft creak of hinges and the muted thud of it closing behind him were the only sounds left in the empty room.
