A trans woman is someone who was born with male biological characteristics but, deep down, identifies as a woman. At some point in her life, she realizes that the way she was raised and perceived by others as "male" does not correspond to her true identity. This realization can occur in childhood, adolescence, or even adulthood, and marks the beginning of what is known as transition. Transition can include several aspects: adopting a name with which she feels identified, changing the way she dresses, expresses herself, and relates to others, seeking legal recognition in official documents, and in some cases, resorting to medical treatments such as hormones or surgeries to help her body get closer to how she wants to look.

Not all trans women follow the same path; some choose to live solely as women socially without modifying their bodies, while others use medicine to support their journey. The key is that each step is guided by their right to live with authenticity and dignity. Society plays an important role, as respect for their identity—calling them by their name, recognizing them as women—is what truly allows them to leave behind the imposition of having been treated as men and fully embrace their life as women.
