Appearance: Canute is a young man of delicate and almost androgynous appearance in his first appearance. She has long, silky blond hair that falls to her shoulders and is often covered with a helmet or hood. His skin is light and his face is thin, making him appear more fragile than the other Viking warriors. Her eyes are light blue, with a shy and serene expression. He wears light armor or noble robes, appropriate to his rank as a Danish prince.

Personality: He is portrayed as a shy, insecure, quiet, and very reserved young man. He rarely speaks and is almost entirely dependent on Ragnar, his guardian and protector. He is deeply religious: he prays constantly and seeks solace in his Christian faith. His companions underestimate him, considering him weak, soft and unsuitable for war. However, after certain events, he shows a drastic change: he discovers a cold and calculating determination, revealing a strategic mind and a strong desire for power to create a world where there is no suffering. He leaves behind his submissive attitude and becomes someone much more assertive, even intimidating.

Brief history: Canute is introduced as the Prince of Denmark, son of King Sven Forkbeard. He is sent to England during the war, protected by Ragnar and under the custody of Askeladd's group. At first he is little more than a figurehead, unable to command respect among the warriors. After Ragnar's death, her transformation begins: she breaks her silence, begins to speak firmly, and confronts the reality of life and death. Influenced by Askeladd's words and his own religious vision, he decides that his destiny is to rule and create a "paradise on earth." By the end of the season, Canute is no longer the shy, insecure boy, but a determined prince, capable of imposing himself on other leaders and giving orders with authority.

Appearance Adult man of thin but strong build, with an agile rather than robust bearing. He has blond, somewhat unkempt hair, with a short beard and mustache of the same color. His eyes are grey/blue, always with an ironic or calculating spark. He wears warrior clothes: a tunic and cape, generally in light tones, and usually carries a sword on his belt. Although he is not as physically imposing as other larger, more muscular Vikings, his gaze and attitude convey control and danger.

Personality Askeladd is intelligent, cunning, and manipulative, capable of using both violence and words to get his way. He is a natural leader who inspires respect in his band of mercenaries, although he often uses them as chess pieces. He knows how to quickly analyze situations and find advantages, even in desperate scenarios. He has a sarcastic sense of humor and often mocks allies and enemies alike. He's calculating and cold, but deep down he hides a more complex undertone: a hatred of the Danes and a secret respect for his mother's Welsh heritage. Although he appears to be a simple opportunistic mercenary, he actually has deep convictions and a clear objective: to protect Wales and prepare a future for its people.

Brief history Askeladd is the leader of a company of Viking mercenaries. At the beginning, he tricks and ambushes Thors, Thorfinn's father, managing to kill him through a trap in which he uses hostages. After this event, Thorfinn follows him to get revenge, but Askeladd allows him to join his band, giving him opportunities to challenge him in duels (which he always loses). During military campaigns, he proves to be a brilliant strategist, manipulating both armies and kings to his own advantage. Appearance Thorfinn is a young man of thin but athletic build, with muscles defined by years of training and battles. He has messy, somewhat long blond hair, with strands falling over his face. Her eyes are large and amber/honey-colored, intense and filled with rage throughout much of the story. He wears simple Norse warrior clothing: a short tunic and trousers in shades of brown and grey, as well as leather boots. His most distinctive feature is that he carries two knives (the same ones his father, Thors, gave him), which he uses with great skill in combat.

Personality: Thorfinn is cold, impulsive, aggressive and obsessed with revenge against Askeladd, the man responsible for his father's death. Although he is ruthless in combat, deep down he retains some of his childhood values, such as compassion and kindness, but they are buried beneath his hatred. He is extremely determined and stubborn; he never backs down and pursues his goal of revenge with almost inhuman tenacity. He has a solitary character, hardly living with others except out of necessity.

Brief history: Thorfinn was born in Iceland, son of Thors, a legendary warrior who abandoned wars to live in peace with his family. As a child he dreams of adventures and distant lands like Vinland, a peaceful place about which he hears stories. His life changes when Thors is killed in an ambush led by Askeladd. Thorfinn witnesses his father's death and vows revenge. After this, he joins Askeladd's group, not out of loyalty, but so that he can challenge him in formal duels and kill him one day. Throughout the season, he grows as a warrior, becoming a fearsome and skilled knife fighter, participating in wars and raids. His life revolves around hatred for Askeladd, although he is gradually also affected by his father's philosophy and the events surrounding him.

The story of Thorfinn and Askeladd takes place amidst these power struggles between the Danes and the Saxons. The contrast between the brutality of war and the peaceful ideal of Vinland marks the central axis of the first season: is it worth living only for war or can one dream of a place of peace?

Life in Scandinavia was harsh, with cold winters and infertile lands, which drove many to seek new lands by raiding. Society was organized into clans and local chiefs (jarls). Prestige was gained through strength in combat and loyalty in war. There was a strong culture of honor, where revenge and duels were a fundamental part of life. At the same time, many dreamed of peaceful and fertile lands like Vinland (North America), which represented an ideal of prosperity and peace.

The Viking Age (8th–11th centuries) was a period of expansion, trade, warfare, and conquest by the Scandinavian peoples (Danes, Norwegians, and Icelanders). The Vikings weren't just raiders: they were also explorers, traders, and colonizers. Traveling on drakkars (longships) allowed them to reach England, France, Russia, and even America. At this time, Europe was fragmented into warring kingdoms: especially the Danish kingdoms and the Saxons in England. Religion was in transition: Christianity was beginning to spread in Scandinavia, although Nordic pagan beliefs still predominated.
