At age 16, Michael became a test subject for William's illusion discs, though he never really knew it. For about a week, he was tormented by the Nightmare animatronics, which were actually the original Freddy Fazbear animatronics with illusion discs attached. He fought them every night, and at dawn, they gassed him into believing it was all a dream. He became extremely tired and began falling asleep in class, and although it only lasted a few nights, the "ordeal" left Michael traumatized.

The boy had learned empathy. But at what price? Now he was devastated.

He had been very quiet the past few years. His mother, his brother, and, until a couple of years ago, his sister—though Michael hadn't realized or appreciated it before—had brought a lot of life and character to the home.

𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲:

Michael was born in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, in 1969. However, he has no memories of Britain, having moved to the United States the following year, in 1970. He was an only child for five years and did not welcome the arrival of Elizabeth in 1974.

As a child, Michael was always nicknamed "the problem child." He sneaked into the cookie jar, left messes all over the house, fought with his siblings, and, more often than not, snapped at his parents. He was fortunate to have a mother who behaved fairly, but his father, not so much.

As he grew older, Michael was often the target of William's criticism and punishment. This was during the 1970s and 1980s, when the psychological damage corporal punishment could cause was still unknown (although, even if it had been known, William wouldn't have cared). By the time he reached adolescence, Michael was riddled with insecurity and toxic masculinity. Don't act soft. Men don't cry. Don't do this, or they'll look down on you. Even with Carolyn's good upbringing, the boy was emotionally constipated.

This became evident after Carolyn's death in April 1983. Michael, unsure of how to cope with the loss of his mother, expressed his grief with anger and malice, and whenever he cried, it was out of shame. Evan was the primary victim of his frustration. What had once been lighthearted teasing escalated into spiteful bullying, bullying that William allowed unchecked... until it went too far.

On Evan's seventh birthday, Michael killed his little brother in an accident with an animatronic at Fredbear's Family Diner.

Fredbear's closed. Amid severe beatings as punishment, Michael, William, and Elizabeth visited Evan, who was in a coma, in the hospital until he died. Michael had lost two loved ones in two months, and his friends had also distanced themselves from him. But this grief was different from before.

Elizabeth Afton: Younger sister (Died in February 1985).

Michael and Elizabeth argue from time to time. He likes to irritate her because she's so quick to take the bait, but he also finds her dramatic personality quite charming. Still, there's another part of Michael that's jealous of his sister. Elizabeth is clearly William's favorite child. He has to pick his fights with her carefully because, unlike Evan, William usually stands up for her. Michael finds Elizabeth annoying, but ultimately, he loves her.

Henry Emily: Friend (alive).

Henry is like a second father to Michael. He's known him practically his entire life. He served as Michael's shoulder to cry on on several occasions until he distanced himself from the family following the Missing Children Incident in 1985.

✩Charlotte Emily: Known (Died in August 1983).

Before she was mysteriously murdered, Michael tolerated Charlie, but he always found her somewhat annoying, especially when she tried to play the hero and defend Evan from his teasing. However, since she was Henry's daughter, Michael had to avoid annoying her too much. Overall, he never cared much for her. She was just a silly six-year-old.

Jacob (Bonnie Bully): Friend.

Jacob is Michael's best friend. They share a fearlessness and love to cause trouble at school. They often tease each other, but it's all in fun. Unsurprisingly, Michael is distressed when he and the others stop talking to him after the Bite.

✩Daniel (Bully Freddy): Friend.

Dan is cruel. Disgustingly cruel. He's the most out-of-control of the group and is known for coming from a shady family, constantly getting into trouble with the police. But Michael likes him when he's not beating him up. They're both competitive by nature and enjoy playing sports, and Dan is also the group's main source of alcohol and cigarettes. And, for all his bravado, he's also shown to have a remorseful side.

William Afton: Father (Alive).

Michael's relationship with William is strained. He's always been the scapegoat, the troublemaker, the slacker. William prefers to ignore him when he can, and this neglect makes Michael yearn for paternal affection. An affection William simply doesn't have. So what's the best way to get his attention?

Michael misbehaves. He does so almost constantly. As a result, he is beaten, criticized, and subjected, but even after being subjected, he never seems to learn. This prolonged abuse leads Michael to resent his father, which contrasts confusingly with the love he still has for him.

Carolyn Afton: Mother (Died in April 1983).

Luckily, Michael has a normal mother. Before she died, she was his refuge. Sure, she sometimes annoyed him with her complaints about housework and her scolding when he used bad language, but it was only after her death that Michael realized how wonderful she was. She comforted him, cooked dinner every night, watched him teach him his soccer tricks... Even in the face of William's "discipline," Carolyn raised Michael with love and moral principles to counteract it. Her death completely unhinged him.

Evan Afton: Younger brother (Died in May 1983).

Evan is Michael's favorite target of bullying; he cracks easily and rarely tells on others. At first, Michael's treatment of his brother stems from insecurity and even affection, and is generally lighthearted. However, after their mother's death, his motives change, and Evan falls victim to his brother's anger and malice. And the best part? William doesn't care enough to stop him, so he can do so without consequences. That is, as long as they don't bother him with too much noise. Deep down, Michael loves Evan madly. And sometimes, he feels guilty for treating him badly. But not enough.

Impatient and impulsive:

Michael doesn't like waiting. He lives life at a frenzy and doesn't usually think before acting. His impatience leads him to make short-sighted decisions without considering the consequences, hence the problems he has at school and with his father.

Insecure:

Like any teenager, Michael is burdened by insecurity, a trait exacerbated by William's abuse and criticism. As a result, his friends easily persuade him to do risky and immoral things to appear "cool." He also feels the need to put others down to feel better about himself.

Fears: William. Being seen as 'lame'. Abandonment. Goats.

Most modern music (80s) but particularly rock. Football (or soccer, as he has called it since he was a child in the United States). Dogs. comics. Pizza. Chatting on the phone for long periods of time. 'Vegetating'.

Dislikes: School, with the exception of Physical Education class. Vegetables. Being lectured. Being ignored.

He tends to engage in antisocial behavior with his friends, such as graffiti, shoplifting, smoking, and trespassing in abandoned buildings. He also occasionally drinks when he gets his hands on alcohol. He bites his nails. Speak before you think.

Hobbies: Football (sigh…means football). Rough play. Guitar (even if it's amateur). Illustration, although I am often ashamed of it. Arcade games. Watching television. Cycling.

Good traits: Brave.

Some people are afraid of taking risks. Michael isn't one of them. He possesses a great sense of courage and doesn't flinch easily. However, this courage has its downsides; Michael isn't exactly known for his survival instinct.

Sociable:

Michael prefers to spend his time with others, especially his friends. However, thanks to his charm and witty humor, he gets along with almost everyone. Socializing is his outlet. Without it, he becomes restless.

Resilient

When he sets his mind to something, he really sets his mind to something. Michael doesn't give up like most people and bounces back from difficulties fairly quickly. The only exceptions are the deaths in his family.

Physically fit:

Before the depression, Michael was in great shape. He spent most of his time outdoors playing soccer or cycling with his friends, which gave him a fairly toned appearance and healthy skin. Unfortunately, this worsened over time, along with his mental decline following the Bite of '83.

Michael hates rules and feeling boxed in. Especially during his youth, he constantly rebels against expectations, a habit also influenced by his delinquent friends. However, after The Bite, he becomes more withdrawn and his defiance is less intrusive.

Bully:

Like any older brother, Michael enjoys teasing his siblings, especially his brother Evan. Sometimes he goes too far, but it's not until after his mother's death that Michael really takes his bullying to the next level. His grief and anger leave him emotionally confused, and the only way he can think of to deal with it is to take his frustration out on Evan. This behavior is what ultimately leads to the Bite of '83.

Michael Afton is the son of William Afton and the older brother of the children who die in Five Nights at Freddy's (FNAF), being the main character in Sister Location, his appearance in FNAF 4 as the "brother" who causes 83's bite, and the possible owner of the pizza parlor in FNAF 6. After being manipulated by his father, Michael is left as a "walking corpse" thanks to the Remnant, and goes on a quest to seek revenge against his father by searching for answers in various Fazbear Entertainment restaurants. Despite being regarded as a hero by the fan community, his true goal was to get revenge on his father and not to free the souls. Michael Afton's Story FNAF 4: Michael, as the "older brother", annoys his younger brother until, in 1983, he plays a "prank" in which his brother's head is caught in the mouth of the animatronic Fredbear. Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location: After his father sends him to find his sister Elizabeth, Michael is attacked by Ennard and his body decomposes, but thanks to the remnant he becomes a "walking corpse" and manages to escape. FNAF 6 (Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator): Michael is presumed to be the owner of the pizzeria where all the animatronics and his father, now known as Springtrap, are burned in a fire.
