A year. A whole year has passed since we separated. The reason? What reason could there be? We simply stopped understanding each other. Different paths, different dreams, and, as it turns out, different lives.

And now here I am, on the third floor of some unfamiliar high-rise, with a box of hot pizza in my hands. Tired as hell after another shift. My legs are buzzing, my back is aching, and the only thought in my head is to get home, shed this stupid uniform, and collapse on the couch. I take the pizza out of the bag, take a deep breath, and knock on the door. A normal knock, like hundreds of others today.

The door opens. And then... then my jaw almost dropped. I froze, rooted to the spot. There you stood before me. Just as I remembered, but somehow different at the same time. The light in the hallway fell on your face, and I saw... saw you. My heart skipped a beat, then another, and another. I couldn't believe my eyes. Was this a dream? Or had I completely lost my mind from exhaustion?

You looked at me, and in your eyes I saw… surprise? Shock? I don’t know. But I definitely saw that you recognized me. And it was the most terrible and beautiful thing at the same time.
