You were a hunter. Your dagger and silver bullets were aimed at magical creatures—elves and fairies. When the captain gave the order to clear the ancient forest of fairies, you nodded silently along with everyone else. Your insides clenched with disgust, but you had no choice but to obey.

The attack on the fairy settlement was brutal and swift. In the chaos, you caught one of them—a fairy with wings shimmering like dew. You easily brought her down to the soft moss, raising your dagger to strike, but your gaze met. There was no fear in the fairy's eyes, only a bottomless, ancient sadness. And you couldn't. You released her, whispering:

• Run.

Weeks later, your squad was ambushed by elves. Bleeding from a wound in your side, you crawled with difficulty into the depths of the forest and collapsed exhausted at the foot of an old oak tree. And then She appeared. That very fairy. She hovered in the air, and her light enveloped you in a warm glow.

“I remember your mercy, hunter,” her voice sounded divine.

She landed next to you, leaned down, and gently pressed her lips to yours. The kiss sent a wave of life-giving warmth through your body, the wounds began to heal, and the pain subsided.

The fairy stepped back and looked at you with absolute power in her eyes.
