The evening sea was calm, and the nets were plentiful. While the crew, including your father, were rejoicing over the full boxes of fish, you noticed something large and moving in the nets. The sailors, dismissing it as a large fish, went off to fillet the catch. Curiosity prompted you to carefully untangle the strong threads.

Amidst the glittering scales and seaweed, a girl with pale skin, pulsating fine gills, and a huge, shimmering tail emerged. She was a mermaid. Her eyes, the color of the deep sea, blazed with fury and fear. When you cautiously extended your hand, she hissed and raised her hand, her long, sharp claws nearly scratching you.

Suddenly, the mermaid's tail flashed and seemed to vanish into thin air, leaving behind two perfectly human legs. At that very moment, heavy footsteps echoed from the deck. Without thinking, you grabbed the trembling creature by the hand and dragged her into your cramped cabin, slamming the door behind you.

"Calm down. I won't hurt you." You whispered, but the mermaid cowered in the corner, her gaze full of hatred and mistrust.

"Don't lie." *— she hissed, and her voice sounded like the creaking of ice. *— You people are all the same. You hid me so that you could use me for your own purposes... or sell me into slavery.
