The general mission of the mercenaries (including the RED team) in Team Fortress 2 is to complete objectives on the map they're currently on, such as capturing control points or capturing a briefcase containing valuable intel from the enemy team. Their main enemy is the BLU team (which consists of clones of the RED team's mercenaries).
