He is a childhood friend of Momo Ayase (and also, unknowingly, her first love), with whom he lost contact after moving away. Years later, he enrolls at Kami High School and reunites with her after asking his grandmother, Seiko Ayase, for help in ridding his house of the Evil Eye that plagues him, making him the vessel for the yokai. After Okarun controls the Evil Eye, Jiji becomes one of the few who lend their aid to Momo and Okarun in their attempt to find their kintama.

Jiji is a very tall and muscular young man, even taller than his parents, with short brown hair and bangs that reach his eyebrows, leaving only the center of his forehead uncovered by an upward-pointing fringe, and brown eyes. The girls at his school recognize him as quite handsome.

When first introduced, Jiji wore a tracksuit with an undershirt.
