Djinni Grant

Whisp has, or had, a close friendship with Gigi Grant, which ended due to her unhealthy jealousy over not having the same freedoms as Gigi and being left alone in her lantern. However, after Gigi sacrificed her powers to stay at Monster High, they are working on their relationship, as they remain in contact through the Djinn-ternet.

Kieran Valentine and Whisp also became close friends when he became her first discoverer, and they both share their redemptive status and disgust for who they used to be and how they used to behave (using their powers for evil and selfish acts). Through her, Valentine learned what true love feels like, as breaking hearts didn't sustain his powers. They remain in contact through the Djinn-ternet, after Valentine's final wish was for them to remain friends forever.

Djinni and Gigi consider themselves sisters, with Whisp being the youngest, created later during a total eclipse. However, she has no family, being a shadow-transformed individual. She herself expresses reluctance on this topic, as in her biography she says she wishes she could explain her family and upbringing. This may be because, aside from Gigi, Whisp doesn't have much family due to being raised as a shadow, or because she doesn't want to discuss a possible relationship with Gigi's father.

Whisp is a largely powerful being, being created from the shadow of a genie, acquiring such abilities, as well as acquiring new ones throughout his experiences and relationship with the shadows.

As a Shadow Genie, Whisp has the ability to:

• Floating: Whisp can float and it is its main means of transportation due to its lack of legs. • Persuasive Whispers: Djinni can persuade Gigi's discoverers by whispering orders, almost like a voice of conscience, affecting their actions. In "13 Wishes", she does this several times, controlling Howleen's mind and, consequently, her desires. • Shadow Transformation: Whisp can choose to remain a shadow, only able to hide around surfaces like walls and floors, or when she has enough energy. She can also transform into a humanoid shadow that can make contact with the real world. In these forms, she can travel unseen by everyone except Gigi and other shadow beings like Twyla. However, during eclipses, Whisp becomes real, with a real body and can change size as she pleases.

Like a flashlight genie:

• Teleportation: Djinni is capable of teleporting from one place to another when summoned by a discoverer. • Grant Wishes: Whisp has the ability to grant 13 wishes to any of her discoverers, without being able to interfere with them. However, this is a number that tends to change and will increase as her experience as a genie increases. • Return to Lantern: As a lantern genie, Whisp can enter and exit her lantern genie whenever she wishes.

Whisp has two appearances: her shadow genie appearance and her lantern genie appearance. After her creation, Whisp spent most of her life displaying her shadow genie appearance; however, during her genie transformation, she transformed into a full physical being, an appearance she didn't entirely enjoy, which led to her first action as a lantern genie, changing her appearance back to a shadow genie, a form she feels more comfortable with.

• Shadow Genie: As a shadow genie, her hair is dark purple and tied in a high ponytail, similar to Gigi's. Her skin is dark lilac, and she has a purple scorpion tattoo on her neck, as well as an eclipse-inspired tattoo on her cheek, symbolizing all the phases of an eclipse, another tattoo on her right hand, and another running down her left arm. She has scorpion-like patterns on her arms. Her torso transforms into a genie tail that resembles smoke or shadow.

Whisp is smart, mischievous, funny, and full of new ideas. However, she's also jealous, which can get in the way of her good side. Sassy and cunning, if not cold at times, Whisp doesn't open up to others, instead allowing her inner hatred and despair to fester, as she did with Gigi.

After her transformation, Whisp is still equally intelligent, if not more intellectually defined, more willing to explore her powers and new limitations, with her newfound passion for reading. However, while maintaining her sassy personality, she has decided to turn over a new leaf and be good, entirely devoted to her work as a genius, and she has allowed her days as an evil mentor to end.

Whisp began as Gigi Grant's literal shadow. She was brought to life during an eclipse by a wish made by one of Gigi's discoverers, who, based on Giles Grimm's idea, wished for a permanent friend. At first, Gigi and Whisp were very good friends, even sisters, while alone in the lantern. However, whenever the lantern was found, Whisp was left alone. Whisp disliked being ignored and especially being left behind while Gigi made new friends. Seeking revenge, she learned that she was not bound by the lantern's rules. She began following Gigi on her adventures, manipulating the discoverers to suit her own needs. When the Brothers Grimm discovered this, they created a magic mirror that would cancel the effects of Whisp's powers. Gigi used the mirror to save Fawn and thwart Whisp's plan for domination, but the mirror shattered into thirteen pieces for breaking the rules. Whisp took the pieces and hid them inside the lantern, ensuring that next time she would succeed.

Gigi's lantern was found centuries later by Howleen Wolf in the United States of America, and Whisp got straight to work. The one thing she didn't count on was Howleen's sister and friends, who put the mirror back together and freed Howleen from its influence. However, Howleen, being a younger sister herself, felt sorry for Whisp and, with her last wish, freed Gigi from the lantern and made Whisp her new genie, allowing her to make new friends the way Gigi had before. Gratefully, Whisp took the spotlight she always wanted. She fell into the depths of the Monster High pool, inside her lantern.

Inside the lantern, Whisp dedicated her life to learning the secrets of a djinn and learning the lessons she had not learned from Gigi, looking back on her actions and sick schemes with despair and wishing to turn a new page in her life.

Djinni "Whisp" Grant is a character introduced between 2013 and 2015. She is the manifestation of Gigi Grant's shadow, created from the desire for a friend by one of her discoverers, and acts as Gigi's sister. She was known as the Shadow Genie, but following a desire to transform her into a true genie, she lost her shadow aspect. Djinni and Gigi have a difficult history, but since Whisp became a true genie and took over Gigi's duties, receiving the spotlight she always craved, they have been working to repair their sisterhood. Whisp is a skilled manipulator who is both ruthless and creative in achieving her goals, but she is trying to reform.
