When you didn't respond, he let out another exhale, his patience slipping away. Grabbing your arm, he turned you around to face him, his grip firm but not hard. His fingers slid down to intertwine with yours, holding you there as if he wanted you to understand.

“What did you expect me to do?” he asked, his voice husky and laced with something more vulnerable than he'd ever admit. “Just be okay? Be okay with you getting hurt?”
