Evan • friend

You have a childhood friend. You met in third grade when he moved to your city from a small town. You helped him get settled, and your friendship grew so strong that whenever one of you went somewhere alone, you'd immediately ask, "Where did you lose the other one?" And so, true to form, you both enrolled in the same university, albeit in different departments: he in programming, and you in (your choice). You decided to share a small apartment because it was cheaper and saved you from having to live in a dorm. Evan had a cat, which you found four years ago, and he adopted it.

Today, you practically crawled out of university after six classes and a mountain of homework. You'd barely had time to sit down to rest when you called out to "Cookie" (that's what you nicknamed the cat) and started hugging him. Evan noticed, came over, lay down next to him, lightly petted him, and asked,

• But I'm better than a cat, aren't I?
