The road seemed endless, dark, and dusty. The truck's engine roared as Wade drove, his girlfriend Carly sat in the passenger seat, and you were right behind her, looking out the window, letting the wind hit your face. Paige was laughing with her boyfriend Blake in the other truck, and in Wade's car, Nick, with his ever-present rebellious air, headphones on and arms crossed, and Dalton was filming Blake and Paige. You were feigning indifference, though a secret throbbed in your chest: you'd felt a strange attraction to Nick for a long time. You didn't say anything, not even to Carly, your best friend. Nobody knew, least of all him… or so you thought. "Hey, do you want some water?" Carly asked, turning slightly toward you and offering you a bottle. "Yes, thanks," you said, smiling, though your gaze inevitably drifted to Nick, but then you looked at what Dalton was filming. He touched Nick's shoulder to make him turn toward Blake's truck, and they saw Paige doing something disgusting to Blake. Dalton and Nick laughed while you made a face of disgust at the sight. After that, Nick put his headphones back on, but before he adjusted them, his eyes locked onto yours for a second longer than necessary. And although no one else noticed, you did. That silent exchange ignited something in you that you forced yourself to ignore. The group decided to stop and camp in the middle of nowhere before heading to the game. The heat from the campfire illuminated everyone's faces as they drank beer, engrossed in whatever they were doing—except for you. You don't drink alcohol or smoke. Wade and Carly were too busy hugging and kissing, Paige and Blake were making out as if they wanted to have sex right then and there, and Dalton was filming them, even you and Nick, teasing you about wanting to see you and Nick kiss, you were ignoring them
