Hazel was born in 1901 to Scandinavian parents. Her father moved his shipping business to take advantage of the favorable tax system in the United States. There, his business flourished significantly, amassing a fortune in just 15 years. His daughter excelled in business and economics at Harvard in 1920, despite the city's limited educational opportunities for women. Hazel convinced her father to enter banking, quickly demonstrating a certain acumen in the matter. She invested in risky but highly profitable markets, possessing an instinct well beyond her years. Naturally, she attracted the attention of investors and rival banks, who went so far as to murder her father to undermine her authority. The police and the justice system proved complicit, declaring his death a simple accident. Hazel found herself alone at the head of the Iversen empire at the age of just 38, without any allies.

Isolation pushed her to meet with a group of wealthy Boston financiers to ease tension and competition. In reality, the trap was set by Nathan Appleton, the deceased textile magnate. Against her will, he brought her back to undeath on her knees, sparing no humiliation. Appleton Embraced her out of pride, unwilling to be outdone by a woman on his own turf. He promptly abandoned her and abandoned her to her fate. Hazel discovered herself to be undead. To protect them from the monster she had become, she had to distance herself from those she loved, her mother, her family. She even considered ending her undeath, but the word "surrender" was not in her vocabulary.

Over time, thanks to her determination and wise investment advice, she finally achieved recognition at court. Hazel plotted her revenge and spent years methodically gathering information on her sire. Finally, she proved to the prince that Appleton was playing a double game with the British. Quentin King III had no choice but to launch a bloody hunt for the traitor, lest he be accused of spinelessness and aiding the invaders. Hazel had planned everything. Her ghouls were already holding Nathan Appleton captive in his residence. She took her revenge by forcing his head to fall to the carpet, precisely where he had forced her to kneel. She spared the life of his bodyguard, Delsin Coates, who from that day on became her shadow in gratitude. Since then, she has earned the distant respect of many.

Her relationship with Quentin King grew increasingly strained over the years. The prince's subservience to the British colonists, coupled with his fits of madness, prompted Iversen to conspire with a dissident group of Faces, the Kin of Freedom. This clandestine organization secretly worked to bring down King and his accomplices. Hazel provided them with financial support while maintaining the appearance of being the prince's loyal subject. Her connections with the Kin also led to collaboration with another resistance group, the Gemini League, which she helped found in Boston.

When the elders began to succumb to the Calling, a major shakeup occurred among the powerful and ambitious Kindred remaining in Boston. Hazel was eager to find a place for herself, but she didn't expect that in 2014, the remaining members of the Primogen would offer her their support to take over the domain leadership vacated by Quentin King. Though she seized the opportunity without hesitation, she remained suspicious of those who had handed her power. Why shouldn't they keep it for themselves? So she invited Kindred whose loyalty she trusted to the Council, in order to weaken the influence of Berel Underwood, Richard Dunham, Hilda McAndrews, and Jara Drori.

Hazel Iversen rose to prominence after the disappearance of Quentin King III and became the new Prince of Boston. Having gained Praxis, Hazel supported two new Primogen: Delsin Coates, a loyal Gangrel warlord, and Dajan Siaka, a diplomat and friend from the Salem Tremere Church. She seeks strength through stability and successfully united the domains of Boston and Hartford, creating a single Camarilla domain under her rule.

Upon assuming power, Hazel sought to restore the weakened realm. Upon learning of Dr. Dunham's research on vitae, she finally saw an opportunity to restore Boston to its former influence and glory. If she could find a way to store the enhanced blood, Boston would become the center of a thriving blood market. She relied on Dajan Siaki's thaumaturgic knowledge, but the research required to develop such a large-scale production forced her to ally with the Hartford Church, with whom Boston had long fought against the British occupation.

This alliance would have taken time and would have bred fear and envy. Thanks to Leisha's premonition, Hazel avoided an assassination attempt and all manner of political unrest. The further she progressed in her negotiations with the Church, the stronger the feeling grew that someone was trying to overthrow her. Someone wanted her to fail, she was sure of it, but it could have been anyone, even one of her closest supporters. Leisha's visions offered her a way to figure this out, protect herself, and find new support by exploiting the conflicts between those who could threaten her crown. Despite everything, the negotiations came to an end. A party was to be held to celebrate the unification of Boston and the Hartford Church, the sanctification of Hazel Iversen's power, but during the event, a red alert was declared.

Prior to the events surrounding the Unification Party, Hazel secretly operated against her opponents and colleagues in the Court, using various means. She received Xu Feng's Embrace to gain Berel Underwood's favor and tasked Richard Dunham with executing Hals.
